1. University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship The University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarships provide EURO 2.4 million in scholarships to academically talented international students in architecture, business, economics, education, engineering, and sciences. The scholarship is aimed at students studying for a Master’s degree in the University of Oulu two-year international Master’s programmes*. The scholarship is for one academic year and covers the full international tuition fee. The University of Oulu IM Scholarship 2012 does not cover living costs. In order to retain the scholarship in the second year of study, a student must have completed 45 ECTS by the end of their first academic year. If a student does not achieve this requirement, they will be liable to pay the full international tuition fee if they wish to complete their Master’s degree programme. 2. Eligibility Requirements to Apply for International Master’s Scholarship a. Applicants are eligible to apply for a University of Oulu IM Scholarship 2012, if they are: Non-EU/EEA** citizens who do not have a permanent residence permit in Finland. (Applicants not eligible for the International Master’s Scholarship are: 1) non-EU/EEA citizens who have a permanent residence permit in Finland, 2) EU/EEA citizens or comparable persons , 3) University of Oulu students who have been accepted to study BEFORE the academic year 2012 – 13.) b. Eligible to apply for a Master’s degree programme* at the University of Oulu for academic year 2012 – 13. The applicant has obtained their first academic degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) from a recognised institution of higher education. - applicants who are in their last term/semester of studies during the application period, can apply for the scholarship. Applicants who receive a conditional offer of study placement for a Master’s programme will receive a conditional scholarship offer. 3. Application for International Master’s Scholarship 2012 – 13 There is no separate application for the International Master’s Scholarship. All applicants for University of Oulu Master’s degree programmes need to complete the Online Application Form. Those applicants who are applying for the University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship have to additionally complete the “Application for Scholarship,” which can be found at the end of the Online Application Form. The International Master’s Scholarship application form cannot be completed and/or submitted without the Online Application Form. Tuition Fees at the University of Oulu 2012-2013 source: www.degree.oulu.fi/admission/scholarships DOCTORAL STUDENTSHIPS IN LAW AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI Advance notification In August 2011, a call for applications will be announced for the Law in a Changing World doctoral programme, co-ordinated by the University of Helsinki. Twelve full-time graduate school positions will be announced for the period 1 January 2012-31 December 2015. Law in a Changing World (LCW) includes almost all higher education institutes in Finland conducting legal research and offering legal education. The call for applications will be published in the daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat on Sunday, 14 August 2011, and on the programme's web page at www.helsinki.fi/omm/english/index.htm. The closing date for applications is Thursday, 8 September 2011. The LCW programme has received 20 posts for doctoral students some of which will be filled during the second application round in the beginning of 2012. The latter group will begin their work on 1 September 2012. Unsuccessful applicants may be admitted as affiliated researchers to the LCW programme. The doctoral students will focus on completing a doctoral thesis in the field of legal studies. Their tasks will include a limited amount teaching and administrative work. The students must register in one of the participating Finnish universities to carry out the doctoral studies. Salaries will be based on levels 1-4 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary scales of Finnish universities. SCHOOL ON NATIONAL SYSTEMS OF INNOVATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GLOBELICS ACADEMY(www.globelicsacademy.net) Tampere, Finland, 16 to 26 May, 2011 The aim of the Globelics Academy PhD-School is to support the training of Ph.D. students from different parts of the world and who are writing theses on issues related with innovation and economic development. The Academy brings together frontier researchers in innovation with Ph.D. students from developing countries in order to inspire and qualify their work as well as in order to help them to join high-quality research networks in their field of research. Previously Globelics Academy has taken place five times in Lisbon, Portugal (from 2004 to 2009) and will now take turns with Tampere, Finland so that in 2008 and 2011 the Academy will be organized in Tampere by TaSTI, University of Tampere.The Academy will be organized around three kinds of activities. First, lectures on the most recent developments in innovation studies will be presented. Second, round table discussions and group work on particular issues related to innovation in developing countries are planned. Third, the students are expected to make presentations of their own research. The Academy originates from and is connected to the world-wide research network Globelics that brings together scholars working on National Systems of Innovation. The student will be working in a project "The impact of soil nutrient status on carbon dynamics in forested peatlands - combining continuous flux measurements and isotopic methods" funded by the Nessling foundation. The project is linked to the carbon balance studies conducted at the FMI and the University of Eastern Finland, and includes participating in the field and lab studies using isotopes (13C labelling, 14C) as well as in eddy covariance measurements on forested peatlands. The student will also be involved in the development work of the atmospheric measurements of 13C isotope and in other research activities conducted by the group. Requirements:
