The organizing committee will provide very limited number of scholarship for student delegates attending the symposium to cover the registration cost only.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES Students applying for scholarship must complete the scholarship application form and must submit it along with the following documents:

In order to strengthen CSIR’s international collaboration with developing countries and to promote “South-South” cooperation in a big way, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi has instituted the prestigious CSIR International Fellowships for Developing Countries.

Under this scheme it is proposed to attract highly talented researchers and students from developing countries, who have limited avenues at home, and provide them an opportunity to be associated with advanced research and state-of-the- art infrastructural facilities in the cutting edge areas of science and technology at some of the premier laboratories of CSIR in India. Essentially, the fellowship is focused at augmenting and shoring the research capabilities of the developing countries.  Hence, while awarding the fellowships, the individual training needs as well as the technological demands of the parent organization of the trainee and the focus of his country’s scientific and technological endeavours and capacity building would be accorded equal priority.

Number of fellowships
50 fellowships have been instituted to begin with.

Duration of fellowship

The minimum period of fellowship will be 3 months extendable up to one year (Short Term). Long Term Fellowships (10 nos) leading to a Ph.D degree could be considered subsequently after reviewing the progress and response to the scheme.

Who can apply
Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
- be a citizen of a developing country (other than India)
- be preferably below 45 years
- hold a minimum qualification equivalent to Indian M.Sc / B.Tech / B.E
- be employed / enrolled in a regular position in a recognized university / scientific   research institution in his / her home country
- have good knowledge of spoken / written English language (to be certified by the concerned Indian Mission / Head of the Department of the university or institution).
- The application should be forwarded by the Employer/Head of the Institution preferably through the Indian Embassy in the respective country with a statement that the candidate would be considered on duty as a full time employee of the Institution during his/her fellowship programme

Application Procedure

The applicant shall submit a brief proposal of the research work he / she wishes to undertake in the CSIR laboratory to the International S&T Affairs Division (ISTAD) at the CSIR, New Delhi. The application form can be downloaded from (http://www.csirwebistad.org/PROFORMA IFDC.doc)

Selection Process
The selection of successful candidates is based purely on merit and competition. The Selection Committee will scrutinize all nominations received twice a year in February and August. The decision by ISTAD / CSIR with regard to selection of the candidates for award of these fellowships will be final. The results will be notified at the CSIR website in May and November

Tenable at
The fellowships are tenable at any laboratory / institute that is a constituent of the CSIR, New Delhi. It would be a necessary precondition that the lab / institute proposed for research placement should accept the candidate before the fellowship is offered or before the fellow arrives in India.
 
Stipend during fellowship
Under the scheme, the fellows will be paid a subsistence allowance of Rs 20, 000/- per month.

Accommodation
CSIR will provide free Guest House accommodation to the fellows in the concerned CSIR labs.

Travel costs
To and fro international travel of the fellows will be met by a sponsor other than CSIR or the fellow himself / herself.

Health insurance and fitness certificate
All successful fellows will need to have a suitable medical insurance to meet any untoward major treatment during their stay in India.

Further, all fellows will have to submit a certificate of physical fitness and HIV test report.

Governmental clearances
Requisite clearances from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India in respect of the fellows are mandatory. CSIR will apply for these clearances to the appropriate authorities in India after the nominations of the fellows have been received.

The IISE focuses on leadership training in order to create social change. The participants, all over 22 years of age, are inspiring visionaries who mainly come from developing nations. All of them have overcome significant life challenges ranging from vision impairment, disability, poverty, war, discrimination and exploitation. They have a passion to make the world a better place and the strength to be forces of good rather than victims of circumstance.

Throughout IISE's 11-month programme, participants develop all the necessary skills to succeed as social innovators/entrepreneurs. Workshops and hands-on practice in the areas of management, public speaking, communication, leadership, fund raising, budgeting, bookkeeping, project proposal writing, marketing, public relations, computing with open software technology, and others, give IISE's participants all the necessary tools to start their own social projects. All selected participants receive a full scholarship, including travel costs, accommodation and a high-end course by international experts.

Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has initiated C V Raman International Fellowship for African Researchers under new Science & Technology initiative to promote scientific cooperation with Africa.

This prestigious fellowship is aimed at further strengthening the bond between Indian and African nations through Science & Technology collaboration.

This fellowship is a follow up action of the new Science and Technology initiative for African countries announced at the highest level during the India – Africa Forum of April 2008.

Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is the Coordinating Partner for C V Raman International Fellowship, FICCI, on behalf of Department of Science and Technology, invites applications from African researchers for the award of C V Raman International Fellowship to conduct research in Indian laboratories/institutes in chosen frontline areas of Science & Technology.

1. Outline of the fellowship
The objective of C V Raman International Fellowship is to provide opportunity for African researchers to conduct, under the guidance of their host in India, collaborative research with leading research groups in universities and other Indian institutions in various areas of Science & Technology.

The programme allows such researchers to advance their own research while contributing to the progress of research in India and counterpart countries.

2. Types and number of fellowships offered
Each African country will have 8 slots of fellowship totalling approximately 416 fellowships under this programme.

•Post Doctoral Fellowship: Duration 6 months. Maximum 2 fellowships of 6 months duration each or one fellowship thereof subject to 12 months
•Visiting Fellowship: Duration 3 months. Maximum 3 fellowships
•Senior Fellowship: Duration 1 month. Maximum 3 fellowships

3. Eligibility criteria
Applicant should be a citizen/permanent resident of an eligible country having diplomatic relations with India

The applicants should be actively engaged in research at a university or research institution in the African country

Minimum academic qualifications: Post Doctoral Fellows – Ph D; Visiting Fellowship – Ph D/M.Tech or 6 to 10 years working experience; Senior Fellowship – Senior Experts/Scientists/Professors.

Indian Host Institute: The applicant has to work out a research/training plan with his/her Indian host scientist in the prescribed format. The candidate should himself/herself correspond with his/her proposed host scientist for placement.

Applicant is required to produce evidence, in the form of a letter of acceptance, from the proposed host institution. The Indian host scientist, with whom the fellow intends to work, should be a scientist of repute in the proposed field of work. The host researcher must be employed full-time at a university/academic institutions recognised by the Government of India or a research institution of Government of India/State Government in India.

Candidates who have earlier availed C V Raman International Fellowship will not be eligible for this fellowship again

The application form submitted must be in English. If the original document is in other language, kindly enclose translation.

4. Terms of award
Round-trip air ticket in economy excursion class from the place of working in respective country to the Indian airport nearest to the Indian host Institute by shortest route and local transport by road/train between airport and the host institute in India

Sustenance allowance:
1.Post Doctoral Fellowship – Rs. 40,000 per month including accommodation;
2.Visiting Fellowship – Rs. 50,000 per month including accommodation;
3.Senior Fellowship – Rs. 50,000 per month plus accommodation (accommodation in host institute’s guest house with reasonable facilities)
Contingency grant:
•Post Doctoral Fellowship – one time contingency grant of Rs. 20,000;
•Visiting Fellowship – one time contingency grant of Rs. 10,000;
•Senior Fellowship – one time contingency grant of Rs. 10000
The C V Raman Fellows will not accept fellowship/financial assistance from any other source at the host institute during the period of fellowship.

5. Application procedure for the programme
The application for this programme is required to be submitted in the prescribed format to FICCI through appropriate national nominating authority in the respective country.

Application process is as follows:
 
Contact is made between an African researcher who wishes to conduct research/training in India and his/her prospective host and the placement consent from the Indian host institute is received African researcher submits an application to a designated nominating authority in his/her country

Nominating authority selects the candidates and sends application of the recommended candidates to FICCI (with a copy for information to Indian Mission of the respective country).

GCBMS launches scholarships for brilliant post graduate & under graduate new comers in the next session (2010-2011).

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION/ SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarships are available for all courses. For Post Graduate courses the value of scholarship is Rs. 1 lakh each and for UG course, Rs. 72,000 each (in case of M.Sc. Chemistry the scholarship is Rs 48,000/-). Students applying for management seats are not eligible for scholarship. Selection will be through a written test. Candidates, meeting the eligibility criteria, will be called for the written test held on 18th, April, 2010. Such successful candidates according to course and seats will be informed by post. If candidates secure same marks in the ASEE-2010, the selection will be based on their academic record. Written examination will be held in following cities namely Dehradun, Kanpur, Kolkata, and Hardoi (UP). Each candidate must indicate his/her preference for the centre in the application. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates to attend the exam under any circumstances. The candidates appearing in the qualifying exam may also apply. The scholarship will be provided to the successful and eligible candidate after taking admission in the GCBMS Dehradun.

The I.C.C.R on behalf Government of India offers scholarships and fellowships to international students wishing to study in India in various programs and disciplines. Scholarships are available also for research work and non-formal courses (Religion, Classical Music, Dance and Crafts). Five complete sets of application forms are to be submitted to the Indian Mission. Candidate should clearly mention the course and university to which he/she is seeking admission. The applicants are advised to go through the “Universities Handbook” available with our Mission before giving these details. ICCR would not be able to entertain a subsequent change in course of study or University once admission of a scholar is confirmed and the scholar has arrived to join the course.

NOTE:
a) Students applying for doctoral/post doctoral courses or architecture should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research.

Eligibility and Application Requirement
1) Candidates must pass English Proficiency Test conducted by Indian Mission.

2) ICCR will not entertain applications which are sent to ICCR directly by the students or which are sent by local Embassy/High Commissions in New Delhi.

3) Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.

4) No application will be accepted for admission to courses in medicine or dentistry.

5) Candidates may note that Indian universities/educational institutions are autonomous and independent and hence have their own eligibility criteria. Forwarding of applications is thus not a guarantee of admission. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR.

6) Students must carry a proper visa. Scholars for structured undergraduate and postgraduate courses should carry full term “Student Visas” while for Ph.D. students “Research Visas” for a specific period of 4-5 years is required. Students should ensure that they get the correct visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission. Govt. of India guidelines stipulate that if a scholar arrives without proper visa and his actual admission at the University/Institute does not materialize, he/she will be deported to his/her country.
In the case of students who require Research Visas, an additional application for the Research Visa has to be filled and submitted in six copies along with six photographs & synopsis. Applicants may note that clearance of Research Visa can take as long as six to eight months.

7) Before departing for India the scholars should seek a full briefing from the Indian Diplomatic
Mission in their country about living conditions in India/the details of scholarship/the type and duration of the course to which he/she is admitted. Scholars should inform the Indian Embassy/High Commission of their travel schedule well in advance so that ICCR can make reception and other arrangements for them.

8) Hostel accommodation is not guaranteed and is an exception rather that an assured facility.
The accommodation allowance that ICCR gives, allows 2 to 3 students to “chum up”, and share a small flat.

9) Scholars are advised to carry some money to meet some incidental expenditure on arrival.

10) All intending candidates should in their own interest obtain a certificate that they are free from AIDS prior to their departure for India. Even in India, the applicant would have to go for AIDS test before the admission is finally given to overseas scholars. In case any of the nominees is found to be HIV positive in India the scholar will be repatriated immediately and the Council would not bear any expenses on this account.

11) The scholars who are awarded scholarships should bring with them all documents relating to their qualifications in original for verification by the respective college/university at the time of admissions.

12) This application form contains a ‘tear-out’ sheet at Appendix-7 titled “Joining Report of the Scholar”. This form should not be submitted along with the main application. Instead, the ‘Joining Report’ form should be removed and submitted to ICCR by the scholar in the event the scholar has been granted scholarship and only after the scholar has joined an educational institute in India. This form should be submitted with the required stamp & signature of the Institute authorities.
