Masdar Institute is the Middle East’s first dedicated graduate institution created to tackle the most important challenge facing our planet today – to develop cutting-edge energy solutions that will ensure the economic growth and prosperity of all nations without damaging the environment.

The following academic programs at Master’s level are o?ered to graduate students with relevant degrees:

• MSc in Engineering Systems and Management
• MSc in Information Technology
• MSc in Materials Science and Engineering
• MSc in Mechanical Engineering
• MSc in Water and Environmental Engineering

Two additional MSc programs will be introduced in 2010: Electrical Power Engineering and Microelectronic Devices and Circuits. PhD programs will also be launched in 2010.

REQUIREMENTS

• English. Applicants should have a relevant undergraduate degree
• and a high GPA from a recognized university as well as high TOEFL

Please use the following guidelines for preparing your Statement of Objectives. This statement is very important so we encourage you to write it carefully. We seek a statement of one to two pages (approximately 400 to 1000 words) explaining the reasons for wanting to do graduate work at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

The statement should describe:

• how you think about the world and your professional objectives
• the issues or problems you want to address during your studies at the Masdar Institute and the setting in which you eventually see yourself working professionally
• how your previous studies and work experience (if any) relates to what you propose to do at the Masdar Institute
• why you are applying to the Masdar Institute and the specific program
• other matters you think are important for us to know

SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT
Successful applicants to Masdar Institute receive full financial support. The scholarships, which are available to students from all nationalities, include alltuition fees, laptops, medical insurance, housing, travel expenses, and a cost of living allowance.

Short description
The purpose of the e8 scholarship is to support outstanding students pursuing advanced studies in sustainable energy development and to encourage meaningful contributions to the collective body of knowledge about this subject.

The University of Edinburgh will offer 20 Master's scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University for the 2010-2011 academic session. Each scholarship will have a value of £3,000 which will be tenable for one academic year.

Eligibility The scholarships will be awarded to students who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme of study at the University of Edinburgh from the following countries:

Africa (List of African Countries), Mexico,  Canada, Middle East (List of Middle East Countries), China, Norway, Hong Kong, Russia, India, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and USA
Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

Criteria The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent.

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program provides support for up to three years of formal graduate-level study leading to a masters or doctoral degree.

Fellows are chosen on the basis of their leadership potential and commitment to community or national service, as well as for academic excellence. Fellows may enroll in masters or doctoral programs and may pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the Ford Foundation. The Foundation currently works in thirteen fields to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement.

Once selected, Ford Foundation International Fellows may enroll in an appropriate university program anywhere in the world, including their country of residence. The program provides placement assistance to those Fellows not yet admitted to graduate school.

IFP support also enables Fellows to undertake short-term language study and training in research and computer skills prior to graduate school enrollment. In addition, new Fellows attend orientation sessions, while current Fellows actively participate in learning and discussion activities designed to create information and exchange networks among Ford Foundation IFP Fellows worldwide. Finally, the program encourages IFP alumni to maintain contact with the program after completing the fellowships to help them remain current in their respective fields through the expanding Ford Foundation IFP network.

Because local requirements vary widely among IFP countries, applicants should carefully follow the specific application guidelines provided by the relevant IFP International Partner organizations, including deadlines for the submission of applications.
