New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are open to all international students who meet the eligibility criteria.

NZIDRS scholarships include:
  • full tuition fees for three years of full-time doctoral study
  • NZ$20,500 per annum living allowance (NZ$1708.33 per month).
  • up to NZ$600 annual health insurance allowance
  • NZ$2000 (across 3 year tenure) travel allowance. This is intended to be used for conference attendance and field research
  • NZ$800 (across 3 year tenure) book and thesis allowance
  • NZ$500 one-off establishment allowance. Only to be paid to those students who are travelling to NZ specifically to take up the NZIDRS. No student already located in NZ is eligible to receive this amount.
Additional funds are not available to support accompanying dependants.

Evidence of available supervision You need to show evidence that academic supervision is available when you apply for this scholarship. Applicants should contact the relevant university departments to confirm the availability of appropriate supervision before submitting their applications. Please see the terms and conditions for more information.

NZIDRS application close date The NZIDRS closes to applications on the 15th of July each year.  Applications will be accepted from early May until 5pm (NZ time) on Thursday the 15th of July 2010. Please note that NZIDRS applications received after the closing date and/or incomplete applications will not be considered by the selection panel under any circumstances. This is non-negotiable.

The New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) scheme offers the opportunity to people from selected developing countries to undertake development-related studies in New Zealand.

This may include study related to education, health, rural livelihoods, governance, human rights, or economic development, depending on the human resource development training needs of the home government.

New Zealand Development Scholarships are offered for full-time, tertiary level study at participating New Zealand education institutions.

History or background of award
The Susan Price Collection, in the National Library of New Zealand, is a research collection of quality children's books published mainly in Britain, America, Australia and New Zealand from the 1930's until the present day. This Scholarship was established by Susan Price, through the Victoria University Foundation, to assist postgraduate studies and to encourage students to use the Collection in their research. The collection is housed at the private residence of Susan Price. Students wishing to make an appointment to view the collection can contact Susan on telephone 04 475 8092 or fax 04 475 6194.

Purpose of award:
To assist postgraduate students, and encourage the use of the Collection in their research

Selection criteria
The Scholarship shall be awarded to a student enrolled in a Masters or PhD programme at Victoria University or to an honours student undertaking a research essay on an appropriate topic who intends to undertake research that will make use of the Susan Price Collection. This would normally be awarded to a student stuying Englis but may be awarded to a History or Librarianship student. The selection will be made on academic merit and a one-page research proposal. The award may be held together with other scholarships and prizes. The award may be held by a student who has not previously studied at Victoria University. The award is open to international students as well as New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.

Number of awards offered: One per annum

Value: $2,000

Tenure of award: Available every two years. One year
