(1) Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities

SOAS has been selected as one of the few institutions in the UK to be awarded three Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities. One scholarship is available for an applicant who is proposing to register for a History research degree at SOAS in the academic session 2012/13. The Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship provides £25,000 per annum for tuition fees, living expenses and research/training costs. The applicant must be UK resident paying fees at the UK/EU rate. (2) Doctoral scholarship

One SOAS Doctoral Scholarship is available for a UK/EU- applicant who is proposing to register for a History research degree at SOAS in the academic session 2012/13. (3) SOAS Research Scholarships

Two scholarships, are available for students who are proposing to register full-time for a research degree at SOAS
in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The SOAS Research Scholarship provides remission of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and a maintenance allowance of £12,470 (2011/12 rate).  For students paying the higher (overseas) tuition fees, the remaining tuition fees payable will normally be deducted from the maintenance allowance. Chinese Government Scholarship is a scholarship set up by the Chinese government to facilitate students and scholars from all over the world to conduct their study and research in Chinese universities. The scholarship aims to increase the mutual understanding and friendship between people of China and people from the rest of the world and to develop the communication and cooperation between China and the rest of the world in the field of Education, Technology, Culture and Economics. 

From the year 2008 under approval of the Ministry of Education of China, Nanjing University will start to offer Chinese Government Scholarships to outstanding master or PhD students. Nanjing University is one of the top universities in China under the direct supervision of Ministry Education of China.

Nanjing University was founded in the year 1902 and it is well-known for its strong academic portfolio and outstanding professors. Nanjing University is located in the heart of a historical city Nanjing. It is surrounded by a beautiful scenery, excellent environment and accessible transportation. The University is currently host to 23 schools and 65 departments offering 162 majors for master degrees and 93 PhD degrees. A master degree takes 3 years while a PhD degree takes 3 to 4 years. Nanjing University uses a credit system, acquiring the total number of credits for the degree and successfully passing the oral defense of the Graduation Paper for a student to graduate. 

QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Academic Background: Applicant must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree for master degree pursuer and a master degree or equivalent for PhD degree pursuer. 
(2) Chinese Language: Applicant must be willing to learn Chinese language, if applicable, and receive education in Chinese language. 
(3)　Health: Applicant must be mentally and physically healthy. ※Students currently studying in China are not applicable. Students who have been granted for other Chinese scholarship or funding（2012-2013） are not applicable. 

TERM OF SCHOLARSHIP　　
Scholarship will be tenable for three years and four years from the date of award for masters’ degree and PhD degree, respectively. One-year preparatory education in Chinese language prior to grantees’ study of his major will be provided with full scholarship benefits if deemed necessary. 

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
(1) Allowance: Grantee will be provided a monthly stipend of RMB 1,700 and RMB 2,000 for masters’ degree student and PhD degree student, respectively.
(2) School Fees: Fees for matriculation and tuition will be paid by the Chinese government.
(3) Health Insurance: A health insurance will be provided to the grantee by CSC for the entire duration of his/her scholarship.
(4) Accommodation: A free accommodation will be provided to a grantee in the International Dormitory of the University for the entire duration of the scholarship.

In addition to the short-term scholarships, the Food Security Center (FSC) at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany awards up to 10 scholarships for PhD students for a period of 37 months. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel in cooperation with KaHo Sint-Lieven and HUBrussel conducts research on Personnel Rostering and Manpower Planning for which a four year PhD position is vacant.

The candidate should have a master degree and possess good mathematical skills. Experience with programming is desirable.

Project description

State of the art approaches on quantitative personnel planning are restricted to either manpower planning or personnel rostering, addressing long term and short term objectives respectively. Some approaches combine aspects of both domains by tackling manpower planning and personnel rostering in a sequential way, resulting in suboptimal solutions at (the)different decision levels. The decisions taken at the level of manpower planning, restrict the possibilities at the rostering level. Consequently, addressing poor quality rosters at a departmental level is very hard.

The project aims at closing the gap by integrating complementary aspects of personnel planning into one single decision model.

Research goals include:

- integrating the objectives of the different decision levels, namely the aggregated organisational level and the level of the local departments, taking into account the corresponding time horizons of both.

- introducing a quality vector capable of considering both manpower planning and rostering aspects.

- developing an algorithm for generating high quality personnel strategies.

An optimal strategy results in a personnel structure that allows for good quality rosters in each department while at the same time, being desirable with respect to manpower planning.

FEM - Research and Innovation Centre welcomes applications for  3-years research fellowships to support brilliant and highly motivated students to get the PhD title in the fields covered by the Centre.

We welcome applications from students of all countries. The official language of the programme is English. Applications can be sent from 13 September 2010.

General information

Eleven (11) scholarships are available for PhD research in the fields covered by the strategic research areas of our Centre: Environment and Natural Resources Area , Food Quality and Nutrition Area, Genomics and Crop Biology Area. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their curriculum and of the letters of reference. Letters  sent by the applicants will not be considered (see below the form for the reference letter).

The grant is for three years and the expected start is February 2011 (Spring 2011 at the latest). The gross  salary is 20.000 Euros per year. Students will also benefit of funding  for travelling to our projects’ partner institutions as the projects include a minimum period of 6-months-stay at the institution co-responsible for the single PhD project. 

There is a general empowerment of the student choice when applying to our PhD research projects. Candidates can postulate for one to three specific projects (see list).

Selected candidates are awarded a 3-years fellowship. The scholarship can be additionally extended for up to 1 year, pending the approval of the FEM PhD Fellowships Committee.

Please note that the CRI issues a specific certificate of attendance, but candidates are asked to register at the  doctoral school of the University partner of the project or of another University, in order to get the conferral of the PhD degree.  The selected candidate has 1 year time from the start of the contract to register at the University doctoral school. If the candidate fails to register within the first year, the scholarship will be interrupted.

Admissions requirements

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields relevant to the research projects (e.g. biology, chemistry, ecology, mathematics, environmental science…).

The International Research Center for "Work and Human Life Cycle in Global History" at the Humboldt University Berlin and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) invites scholars to apply for (5 stipends for senior scholars and 5 stipends for postdoctoral candidates) for the 2011–2012 academic year as well as for future academic years. Candidates:
We welcome candidates especially from the disciplines of history, anthropology,
law, sociology, political science, and area studies. Applicants should be at the
postdoctoral level or senior scholars. Postdoctoral candidates should have received their doctorate within the last five years. Proposed projects should employ a historical and transregional perspective.

The project should focus not only on work/labor, but on life course as well. Possible topic areas are, among others, the household, loss of work, and free and unfree work.

We welcome proposals with an emphasis placed both on European and non-European regions and especially those that look at the entanglements between different regions.

In any case, global history has to be taken into consideration. The fellowships begin on October 1, 2011 and end on July 31, 2012. Shorter fellowship terms will be possible.

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, which can be individually negotiated. They are obliged to work at the International Research Center in Berlin. A fully equipped office will be provided as well as organizational help for visa, housing, etc. We encourage fellows to introduce their work to wider audiences in the scientific community in Berlin.

Scholarships:

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

For example, the basic salary of a 3 year PhD student amounts to DKK 25.014,58 per month.

General information:
A successful applicant will be an excellent student capable of conducting research under supervision from the IT University’s faculty members at the highest international level.

The PhD scholarships run for a period of 3- or 4-years depending on the university degree level of the applicant.

The following qualifications are required. If you apply to be enrolled you have 2 options:

• 3 year programme, you must be able to present a Master’s degree i.e. 5 full time years of University Studies, divided into 3 full time years of bachelor level exams plus 2 full time years of Master level exams of 180 + 120 ECTS points

• 4 year programme: A Bachelor degree i.e. 4 full time years of University Studies, divided into 3 full time years of bachelor level exams plus 1 full time year of Master level exams 180 + 60 ECTS points.
The one year of 60 MA-level ECTS points must be possible to fit into one of the Master programs at the IT University.

One year of full time studies consists of 1680 hours and equals 60 ECTS points.

Recommended enclosures
A statement of purpose must be authored by yourself and must include both a research question and main goals, for your potential PhD project.
As an applicant you should specifically explain if you have needed disciplinary and /or methodological training to conduct scientific work.
The statement of purpose will be used to determine your abilities of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and scientific writing.
