In an effort to promote talented academics, and with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, up to 20 IRENA scholarships are offered at Abu Dhabi based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology. The Programme extends to eight Master of Science Programmes offered at MASDAR Institute.

In addition, IRENA Scholars will be able to attend an exclusive Lecture Programme aimed at promoting and informing on the latest developments in the field of renewable energies.

IRENA MSc scholarship now open for application
IRENA’s MSc scholarships are now open for application and will be closed 31 May 2011 for the Academic Year 2011/ 2012. Apply online via MASDAR Institute’s website, and indicate that you are applying for an IRENA Scholarship.  Link: www.masdar.ac.ae/programs/Admission.php

Eligibility
  • Individuals with outstanding academic record who completed their undergraduate studies (or near completion) in a relevant field
  • Eligible students have to comply with entry requirements defined by the MASDAR Institute:
  • Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology
  • Academic record and credentials must indicate the ability to achieve distinction
  • The minimum CGPA required is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Full scholarship is available to qualified talented students who meet Masdar Institute's high admission standards. The requirements are as follows:
1. A relevant undergraduate degree
Undergraduate degrees must be in the fields of science, engineering, or information technology

2. High CGPA from a recognized university
The minimum CGPA for consideration of admissions is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0

3. High GRE scores
The minimum score required on the GRE Quantitative for consideration of admissions is 700.
There is no cut-off score for the Verbal and Analytical but these scores are also important and evaluated. The GRE exam cannot be waived.  4. High TOEFL (or academic IELTS)
The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. The minimum academic IELTS score is 6.5.  The TOEFL/IELTS can only be waived for native English speakers (e.g., Native American or native UK students, etc.). 

Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following:
  • 100% tuition fee scholarship
  • Textbooks
  • Laptop
  • Medical Insurance
  • Housing
  • International students will receive reimbursement for travel expenses (economy class air-ticket) into Abu Dhabi and back home after completion of studies. Travel expenses (return economy class air-ticket) back to the student's home country at the end of the 1st year of studies will also be reimbursed.
  • Reimbursement of TOEFL and GRE exam fees (upon registration at Masdar Institute and submission of original receipts)
  • A competitive stipend per month (cost of living allowance) which is currenlty set at 4,000AED.
The scholarship and benefits are subject to the student maintaining a minimum CGPA as determined by Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and satisfactory progress on their research.

 
 
SPMC Announncement for Academic Year 1432H /2011-2012

  1. The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is pleased to announce that scholarships under the Scholarship Programme for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries (SPMC) are open for application.

  2. The Programme is designed to help students from the Muslim Communities in Non-Member  Countries to undertake undergraduate studies in medicine, engineering, agriculture and other related fields in their own countries or in the IDB member countries on exceptional basis. The Scholarship Programme is intended to be for academically meritorious but financially needy Muslim students with strong desire to engage in social services and community development.

  3. The scholarship is an interest-free loan (Qard Hasan) to the students to be repaid, in easy instalments, after graduation and gainful employment, to the IDB Education Trust (Waqf)  in each country benefiting from the Programme.

  4. The scholarship comprises monthly stipends, books & clothes allowance, tuition fees (wherever applicable), medical coverage (only through government or university hospitals) and air-ticket to join study and return after graduation (for students studying abroad only).

  5. The applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:
    • Age not over 24 years.
    • Completed senior secondary education (pre-university study) with good grades in major science   subjects and   language of instruction.
    • Secured admission in one of the disciplines covered under the Programme at a recognized college or university in their own countries (for in-country study). 
    • Not in receipt of any other scholarship.
    • Committed and needy Muslim.
    • Recommended by the Counterpart Organization.
  6. The prospective applicant should obtain the application form from the Counterpart Organisation or download the application form and read full information on about the SPMS Programme.

  7. The application form must be properly completed and submitted to the Counterpart Organizations in the country, accompanied by all the requisite documents and not directly to the IDB Headquarters in Jeddah.  Applications received directly at the IDB will not be considered.

Applying to KAUST

Preparing your Application to KAUST
You should complete your bachelor/master’s degree in a KAUST-relevant field of study prior to the semester of enrollment.

Current field of study must be in a KAUST-relevant area, such as Engineering, Mathematics, or the Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.

There is no minimum GPA requirement for admission. However, most candidates will have an average cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or equivalent in other international grading systems. The average GPA of admitted students is currently 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.

KAUST requires a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) before an application will be considered for admission. KAUST's university code for the TOEFL exam is 4107. Only official TOEFL or IELTS scores will be accepted. TOEFL or IELTS scores for tests administered by an educational institution for admission to that particular institution are not acceptable.

A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required if the applicant is a native speaker of English (English is the primary language spoken in the home) or received a degree from a university in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. KAUST does not require the GRE exam for admission. However, we encourage students to take the GRE general test. A high quantitative score on the GRE will enhance a student’s application Official test results should be send directly from ETS. The KAUST university code is 4139. The average score on the GRE quantitative section was 780 for admitted students in the 2010 admission.

Submit an official university transcript from every institution previously attended. We have provided downloadable file below that may be helpful in obtaining records from institutions you have previously attended. A scan of the unofficial transcript should be uploaded into the online application form and an official transcript must also be sent directly from the university in a university sealed envelope to:

Request for Academic Records

Submit a statement of purpose with your application. In this statement, describe your motivation for seeking admission to KAUST and your preparation for the program to which you are applying. Describe your research interests and study interests, as well as your plans for the future. Demonstrating an aptitude for academic study and research-leadership potential may enhance your statement of purpose.

You must have three letters of recommendation submitted on your behalf. Letters of recommendation are extremely important and should be written by professors or advisers under whom you have pursued research or taken courses in your major field of study. Recommenders should provide details about how he/she knows your work, as well as comparative statements (e.g., top 1% of class, best in past five years, etc.), and insight into research ability.

Application Deadline
The preferred application deadline is October 15, 2010 for PhD programs starting in January 2011.
The application deadline is January 15, 2011 for MS and PhD programs starting in September 2011.

Thereafter, students are welcome to apply and be considered on a rolling admission basis.

It should be noted that most programs have no formal closing date, however some programs will fill quickly and you are advised to apply and complete your application before April 2011 to ensure facilitation of the visa application and relocation process.
