ANNOUNCING THE 9TH ROUND OF FORD FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMME FOR THE 2011/12 ACADEMIC YEAR The International Fellowships Program (IFP) is a program based in New York, and supported by the Ford Foundation. It is administered in Tanzania as IFP-Tanzania in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF). IFP-Tanzania is hereby announcing the fellowships for advanced study, of up to three years of study to exceptional individuals with potential qualities and who will use their education to further development in their own communities and the nation, ultimately bringing about greater social and economic justice in the country and also worldwide. IFP fellowships will be awarded to applicants from diverse backgrounds, more specifically, to those from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. These fellowships are tenable in the world, were the IFP programme has Strategic Partnership Universities (SUPs). A total of Seventeen (17) fellowships will be awarded to deserving Tanzanians, for the 2011/2012 academic year to undertake MASTERS PROGRAMME ONLY. Eligibility Requirements:
For bilateral research collaborations The Tanzania Academy of Sciences (TAAS) in collaboration with the Royal Society UK and Levehulme Trust are launching the second round of bilateral research collaborations. In the 2009 round, after a competitive evaluation process, Tanzanian researchers got two awards and Ghana received four awards. In 2005 the Society decided to extend its support for capacity-building to Ghana and Tanzania and a new funding scheme was established following extensive consultation with stakeholders in the UK, Ghana and Tanzania. The scheme, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, aims to help develop and maintain excellence in science in both countries and to strengthen the research and training capacity of the African institution. Subjects Covered: All areas of basic natural science covered by the Royal Society’s remit, but applicants are particularly encouraged to apply in five priority areas: - Agriculture (including animal health)
- Water and sanitation
- Basic human health research (including medicinal chemistry)
- Biodiversity (including medicinal plants and green chemistry)
- Energy (including renewables)
Eligibility: As the projects are of a bilateral nature, one applicant must be based in the UK and the other either in Ghana or Tanzania. The project leaders must be of at least postdoctoral status or equivalent and their teams must be recognised and supported by a Ghanaian/Tanzanian or UK higher education institution. The applications will be assessed on the basis of their scientific merit, the potential for long-term research collaboration and the level of training opportunities. Length of Tenure: 3 years Value of Grant: Awards will offer a maximum of £50,000 per annum to cover research expenses and costs for mobility. CAREER OPPORTUNITY MONITORING AND EVALUATION CONSULTANT-ENGENDERHEALTH / CHAMPION PROJECT, TANZANIA. EngenderHealth is an international NGO funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Tanzania. EngenderHealth works to improve the health and well-being of people in the poorest communities of the world. For 65 years, EngenderHealth has been improving the lives of men, women, and families through its dedication and work in family planning, maternal health, and HIV and AIDS The EngenderHealth/CHAMPION (Channeling Men’s Positive Involvement in a National HIV/AIDS Response) Project, which seeks to increase positive male involvement in HIV and reproductive health, is funded for five years. The project works in ten regions throughout Tanzania, with the main office located in Dar es Salaam. The program seeks an M&E specialist to assist in overseeing and managing project’s related M&E functions for a period of at least three months, from January to March 2010. Terms of Reference:The consultant shall work together with the in-country technical team, as well as the New York-based Monitoring, Evaluation and Research [MER] unit, to provide technical leadership for M&E related functions of the CHAMPION project. Duties and Responsibilities
- Revise the Performance Monitoring Plan (PMP) to reflect new developments in donor’s indicator definitions.
- Refine the project’s M&E System in line with the PMP, including the set of data collection tools.
- Coordinate development/finalization of conceptual frameworks for various components of the project including; curriculum based interpersonal education, community engagement and mass media, health services, workplace interventions and policy and advocacy.
- Coordinate routine data collection and processing for project activities.
- Develop a Data Quality Assessment (DQA) plan for CHAMPION and its partners
- Work with the Technical Director to ensure USAID quarterly reports, Semi-Annual Progress Report (SAPR) and Annual Progress Report (APR) are prepared on time.
- Develop technical assessment tools for sub grantees based on project’s standards of performance.
- Develop M&E capacity building plan to sub-grantees, including identifying the needs of different partners, establishing the training and quality assurance plan to partners.
- Coordinate Baseline report writing by research consultants.
Qualifications and Skills The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experiences:-
- Advanced degree in epidemiology, demography or a related discipline, or an MD or MPH with significant analytic training.
- Good knowledge and experience in the field of Gender and/or HIV/AIDS epidemiology.
- Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
- Knowledge of relevant national and international indicators related to Gender, RH and HIV/AIDS.
- Sound knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluation methodologies to plan and manage project -specific activities.
- Trained in quantitative and qualitative data analysis programs; SPSS, Epi Info, and ATLAS desirable.
- Experience in data collection, management and analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and supervisory skills
- Experience in planning and facilitating trainings.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
- At least 3 years working experience in the field of monitoring, evaluation and research.
