Masdar Institute is seeking an individual with extraordinary technical skills and a keen interest in laboratory research to serve as a full-time Research Engineer/Laboratory Manager for laboratories in the ME, MSE, and WEE programs. 

The primary responsibility of this position will be:
(1) the day-to-day maintenance and operation of laboratory instrumentation,
(2) design and construction/assembly of small-scale laboratory apparatus, and
(3) development of equipment specifications for equipment acquisition/purchasing. 

The individual will also be expected to collaborate on research projects with faculty, teach laboratory modules of courses, and train graduate students and post-docs working in these labs.  Specific technical skills needed for this position include the following:

1. Knowledge on the workings of most, if not all, of the following laboratory analytical instruments:  Chromatography-based instruments (GC, GC/MS, HPLC, and IC), metals analysis instruments (AA and ICP), elemental and TOC analyzers, spectrophotometers, spectrometers, colloid characterization equipment (particle count/particle size/zeta potential), and fluid property characterization equipment. 
2. Electrochemical characterization techniques including EIS, CV, galvanic charging/discharging techniques; lithium-ion battery testing; composite solid polymer electrolytes and structure-property correlation of polymer materials.
3. Experience in setting up data logging or instrument control interfaces from laboratory instruments or sensor networks to PCs using LabVIEW or similar software.
4. Ability to set up gas or liquid flow-through experimental apparatus using Swagelok® or other similar fittings.
5. Wet chemistry skills involving the handling and storage of organic solvents and corrosive chemicals.

The successful candidate should have at least five years experience. A Ph.D. degree or Masters’ degree in an engineering or science discipline is highly desirable.  Salary compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.  Housing and benefits will be provided.
