About the award
The University of Exeter is investing £80 million in science, engineering and medicine, building on existing areas of excellence. An initial £30 million of existing funds is being spent on new appointments, infrastructure and studentships in five research themes. Climate Change and Sustainable Futures is one of five groundbreaking interdisciplinary themes identified for investment. The theme underpins the growing strategic alliance with the Exeter-based Met Office. This partnership facilitates joint research between our two organisations to advance climate science. We will further benefit from a planned European investment of more than £40 million to develop the Environment and Sustainability Institute at our Cornwall Campus.
Under the leadership of Professor Peter Cox, Climate Change and Sustainable Futures consists of a vibrant community of around 300 academics, research students and support staff who work in areas as diverse as physical sciences, environmental economics, health, policy and regulation and behavioural change. For further information on our work, please visit the Climate Change web pages.
We now seek to award an interdisciplinary PhD studentship entitled "Modelling climate change impacts on coral reefs". The project will be supervised by Professor Peter Cox (School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences) and co-supervised by Professor Peter Mumby (School of Biosciences). The studentship will cover fees for three years plus an annual Research Council-equivalent maintenance grant for three years. In 2009/10 this was £13,290; the 2010/11 grant will be announced later in the year.
