PhD program in “Innovative Biomedical Technologies”

The PhD program in “Innovative Biomedical Technologies” (IBT) is an international and multidisciplinary joint postgraduate training program provided by the University of Eastern Piedmont at Novara and the University of Insubria at Varese (Italy) in collaboration with the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA).  

The IBT Program offers four scholarships for the following topics:

1. “Vaccines for therapy of autoimmunity” Steward Department: Department of Medical Sciences, Novara, Italy.
   
   
2. “Innovative tools for the diagnosis of autoimmunity” Steward Department: Department of Medical Sciences, Novara, Italy.
   
   
3. “Interferon and autoimmunity” Steward Department: Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Novara, Italy.
   
   
4. “Tumor immunotherapy and vaccines” Steward Department: Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences, Varese, Italy.
   
   

The program is funded by the Fondazione Cariplo and comprises grants for specific educational activities and research stages at the participating or other institutions.

Application guidelines PhD program in “Innovative Biomedical Technologies”

Eligible Candidates:
Highly qualified and motivated students of any nationality are invited to apply for the 3-year studentships.
Applicants shall hold a M.Sc. or equivalent degree. Candidates who have not yet obtained their degree will be accepted if they will finish their studies latest by September 30th, 2010.

How to apply:

• Download and fill in the Application Form. Complete the Application Form and send it together with all enclosures by e-mail to ibt.program@med.unipmn.it. Please send all enclosures as a single pdf file (≤10 MB).
  Please note: Documents in languages other than Italian or English must be submitted as English translations. Only fully completed application forms will be considered.
• Two letters of recommendation are requested. Applicants must forward the Reference Form to the referees and ask them to e-mail the completed form to ibt.program@med.unipmn.it.
  Please note: It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the referees send the form within the application deadline.

Deadline:
The deadline for receipt of completed Application and Reference Forms including all enclosures is September, 15th 2010

Selection:
All applications will be pre-screened by the IBT Program Committee. The short-listed candidates will receive invitations for interviews at the end of October 2010. Justifiable travel and lodging expenses will be reimbursed. Offers of admission will be made to the successful candidates at the end of the interview.

Financial Support
PhD students admitted to the IBT program will be enrolled as graduate students at the University of Eastern Piedmont (topic 1-3) or at the University of Insubria (topic 4).
Studentships will be approx. € 21.000 per year. Furthermore students will receive financial support for participations at International Conferences and for research stages abroad in collaborating or other international institutions.

Tuition Fees
Tuition Fees amount to € 295 per year.
