International Max Planck Research School Primary Metabolism and Plant Growthis inviting applications for  Doctoral Fellowships Applications will be accepted until January 28, 2011.Doctoral projects will start summer/autum 2011.

The application procedure is online only.

You will find the link to the online application form at the end of this page. Please read the following information carefully before you apply.

The International Max Planck Research School "Primary Metabolism and Plant Growth" (IMPRS-PMPG) and the GoFORSYS doctoral programme provide a unique training opportunity in plant genomics and systems biology. Research is at the core of the 3-year programmes. Doctoral projects within IMPRS-PMPG will to a large extent focus on the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana. The research projects follow a range of approaches - from molecular physiology to bioinformatics and modelling.

Both doctoral programmes are joint initiatives of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology and the University of Potsdam. The working language of both programmes is English. Our doctoral students will receive high level interdisciplinary scientific training covering various aspects of systems biology-oriented research, complementary skills training, and support in career development.

Application
Requirements

Both programmes, IMPRS-PMPG and GoFORSYS, are open for students from all countries. Once you are accepted into either programme, you will be enrolled at the University of Potsdam (for information, see General Information).

To be accepted as a doctoral student, you must hold a Master's, Diplom, or equivalent degree in a subject relevant to our programme. In exceptional cases we can accept students with an excellent BSc (1st class honours) who may need to attend additional courses and seminars during their first year. Additional requirements will be defined on a case-by-case basis.

The language of both programmes is English. Therefore, a good knowledge of English is absolutely required. We encourage you to support your application with scores of internationally valid language exams like TOEFL, IELTS, or other tests. This will make the evaluation of your application easier for us. However, this information is not mandatory.

Required documents At the end of the online application we ask you to upload the following two documents as PDF:

  1. Your CV including a personal statement about your motivation.
The personal statement is similar to the cover letter you would write in a written application. We would like to hear about your research interests, your background and career goals. With your motivation statement you can tell us why you would like to join our doctoral programme and convince us that you are an ideal candidate.
  2. Your transcripts and academic degree documents.
These are documents relevant to your application, for example your Bachelor's and Master's certificate. All submitted documents and certificates must be in English or German. If they are not in either language, please submit a copy of the original document and a translation into English. Candidates who are accepted into the programme will have to show the original documents and, if applicable, certified translations into English when they register with the University.
