Swedish Institute (SI) scholarships and exchanges are intended to promote sustainable relationships and mutual learning processes, which in turn evolve from interpersonal meetings, education and cultural experiences. SI strives to build up and develop good, lasting relationships, exchanges and networks with people and institutions in other countries. If you are interested in an exchange with a Swedish counterpart, we have a range of programs and opportunities to offer you. For detailed information about the various programs, see the menu on the left.

Scholarships
In the educational field, SI administers a number of scholarship programs. These give students and researchers at Swedish universities and colleges the chance to pursue their objectives in other countries, and also give their counterparts abroad the chance to spend time in Sweden. The programs mainly offer individual scholarships but also provide funding opportunities for institutional cooperation via the Visby Program – the Swedish Institute’s program for the Baltic region.
The Visby Program is the biggest SI exchange program in the educational sphere. The aim is to establish sustainable networks between Sweden and the countries of the Baltic region through cooperation at all levels of education above public school, in the form of both individual scholarships and support for institutional cooperation.

Thinking about studying in Sweden, or pursuing research? The Swedish Institute publishes the website Studyinsweden.se - designed to provide you with the information you need to study in Sweden as a foreign student.

The Swedish Institute funds approximately 400 scholarships each year for students and researchers coming to Sweden to pursue their objectives at a Swedish university or university college.

The number of available scholarships varies from year to year, and competition is keen. There are several kinds of scholarships available. For more information, visit Studyinsweden.se.

On Studyinsweden.se you will also find information about applicants who were offered scholarships from the Swedish Institute for master´s degree studies in Sweden from the autumn 2010 within the Guest Scholarship Program, the Visby Program and the Swedish-Turkisk Scholarship Program.

Leadership programs
Leadership programs represent a further example of SI efforts to promote exchanges and network-building. The aim is to develop active and lasting networks bringing together potential new leaders and opinion-makers around the world.

Expert exchange and cultural cooperation
By making available aid-financed programs in the field of expert and cultural exchange, SI contributes to the goal of creating conditions that enable people in poverty to improve their lives. Poverty in this context refers not just to the lack of material resources but also to power, opportunity, freedom of choice and security. Such a goal is achieved by establishing sustainable relationships, networks and mutual learning processes between actors in Sweden and the developing countries in the areas of gender equality, sustainability, democracy, children’s rights and freedom of expression.
