The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEWEB) seeks to combine high quality education with 
excellent research. The Faculty offers three Dutch taught Bachelor’s programmes (Economics and Business 
Economics, Econometrics and Operations Research and Business Administration), one English taught Bachelor’s programme (International Business Administration), eight English taught Master’s programmes and thirteen postgraduate programmes. The faculty has several research groups with an outstanding international reputation. 

FEWEB accommodates approximately 5000 students and 1500 postgraduate students. Over 500 staff members are employed at the Faculty.

The department of Spatial Economics 
The Department of Spatial Economics of the VU University Amsterdam is engaged in research on many economic problems in which the environment, space and transport play prominent roles. The 60 staff members are involved in both fundamental research and in national and international commissioned research. The department has gained national and international recognition.

The Department of Spatial Economics is looking for candidates for a Post-doc position on the interface between Environmental and Resource Economics and Public Economics. The Post-doc candidate will be part of a larger team that is to be formed in the context of the ERC project “Combating climate change: The political economy of green paradoxes”, led by prof. Cees Withagen (VU University Amsterdam) and prof. dr. Rick van der Ploeg (University of Oxford and VU University Amsterdam).

Various projects are available, including imperfect competition on resource markets, optimal taxation of carbon emissions, the design of first best and second best policies for renewable energy, transitions from different types of energy sources, political economy of climate change. The research project has a theoretical as well as an empirical dimension. Requirements 
We expect the postdoc to work on the macroeconomic, public finance and political economy aspects of climate 
change economics. We expect therefore a good knowledge of modern macroeconomics and public finance, and experience of working with MATLAB and a strong interest in simulating complicated nonlinear, intertemporal, stochastic general equilibrium models. Experience with empirically calibrating climate change or other models is a plus. The postdoc must have a doctorate or equivalent in Economics with relevant specialist knowledge, and strong analytic and technical capabilities in modern economic methods. Proficiency in English in speaking and writing is essential. One of the tasks of the post-doc is to have the daily supervision of a PhD candidate  also appointed on the project. We expect some teaching activities both at graduate and undergraduate levels, and also thesis supervision.

Salary
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, a minimum of €2.977,- and maximum €4.970,- gross per month (salary scales 10 , 11 and 12) based on a fulltime employment.
