The position is based in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The project includes the following working areas:
• health promotion within community groups (advocacy, communication and social mobilization for improving the level of knowledge and information to reduce the burden of ill-health in
communities),
• health systems strengthening (strengthening of health care financing mechanisms and organisational support of the district health system), and
• operational research and documentation (as a cross-cutting activity for the two components).

Your main responsibilities, under the Switzerland-based Project Leader will be to:
• Coordinate the project with all its activities in country
• Liaise with the regional and district authorities and relevant stakeholders of the project
• Provide technical support for concept development in the different working areas of the project
• Development of project plans
• Facilitate and guide consultancy missions, trainings, etc.
• Monitoring the implementation of project plans
• Reporting duties to the project leader and within the stakeholder context (government, steering committee, etc.)
• Accountability for the in-country project finances to the project leader

Professional profile and requirements:
• Training in health care financing or public health, and a background in family medicine, planning of health services at decentralised level, continuous medical education and/or community development. A postgraduate training in public health (ideally at Master degree level) and/or a PhD in a relevant topic would be an asset
• At least 5 years of professional experience in development projects related to health
• Substantial working experience in the field of public health and health reform in developing countries in at least one of the following fields: health care financing, health system monitoring and evaluation, health planning and management, community health, primary care
• You have an excellent command of English; language knowledge of Kiswahili and German are an additional asset
• Experience in project management and leadership

PSI is seeking an experienced, dynamic Malaria Technical Advisor to support PSI’s growing malaria prevention and treatment portfolio. RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Malaria Technical Advisor will work closely with other members of the MCS Department to:

• Facilitate coordinated support to the implementation and expansion of PSI’s malaria prevention and treatment initiatives, with particular focus on supporting the West and Central Africa region.
• Provide short-term technical assistance to country programs and national malaria partners in program design, resource mobilization, research, product development and launch, marketing, behavior change communications and integrated malaria and child survival approaches.
• Play a leading role in supporting Ministries of Health in scaling up access to ACTs and delivering long lasting mosquito nets through integrated campaigns and sustained delivery systems.
• Leverage previously established international credibility in the field to improve PSI’s malaria positioning at national and international level.
• Actively engage in and collaborate with the international malaria community to support advocacy and programme coordination efforts.
• Compile and disseminate lessons learned from PSI programs to international partners through a range of media, including tool kits and publications, to facilitate rapid transfer of best practices.
• At least 40% of time will be spent traveling. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Relevant post-graduate degree (MPH, MD, PhD, etc.);

Admission procedure, requirements and instructions

Excellence and background:

• At the time of admission, applicants are required to hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering or equivalent degree corresponding to at least three years of full-time higher-education academic studies (an equivalent of 180 ECTS credit units in the Finnish university system). The degree should include enough studies in computer science completed at excellent levels. These basic skills expected are: programming skills, knowledge about the theoretical foundations of computer science, data structures and algorithms.
• Active knowledge of written and spoken English is a must. Every candidate has to declare this explicitly (a valid TOEFL, IELTS, or comparable certificate, see recommended minimal requirements at the bottom). The English test is not required 1) from citizens of Nordic countries, provided that the applicant’s matriculation examination (upper-secondary studies) or a previous higher-education degree include studies of/in English, 2) from applicants with English-language Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from EU or EEA country, the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. The merits of an applicant are evaluated on the basis of the sent documents, previous studies and grades, and possible interviews with the applicant. An evaluated motivation, fit for the programme, and a capability to study in a foreign environment will also be used as selection criteria. Valid applications will be ranked based on the aforementioned merits and on the experts’ evaluation.

A limited number of scholarships are usually available for the admitted students. Students should apply for this scholarship only after arrival when accepted for the programme.

The Health Research Unit of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) in collaboration with the University of Athens (School of Law, Economics and Political Science) organize their 9th Annual International Conference in Athens, Greece, 28-31 JUNE 2010 & 1 JULY 2010.

The registration fee is €250 (euro), covering access to all sessions, 2 lunches, coffee breaks and conference material.
