A 1-year Postdoc position is available at DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering from January 1, 2011. The Postdoc project is part of a research project in collaboration between DTU Fotonik and Bang & Olufsen. Part of the work may be carried out at Bang & Olufsen. Project The project is titled "Processing of coded video for LED backlight dimming of LCD displays for energy savings and high contrast”. It is funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council and it is headed by S. Forchhammer, DTU Fotonik. The project is about processing of decoded video for local dimming of LED based backlight systems for LCD displays. This novel LCD/LED display technology may potentially reduce power consumption significantly and at the same time improve image quality. The new display technology implies a novel way of representing the video signal to control LCD elements for each picture element and a local control of LED backlight elements. The project shall develop algorithms for local backlight dimming, to improve power consumption and image quality by jointly designing processing from reception of MPEG video to display on screen. We seek one Postdoc. Two PhD students are working on the project. The project is located within the Coding and Visual Communication Group at DTU Fotonik and it will be conducted in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen and McMaster University, Canada. The PhD grant amounts to 1,103 € net per month (+ allowances for stays in Beijing). The interdisciplinary research and education program is jointly conducted with China Agricultural University, Beijing. It comprises subprojects in Plant Nutrition, Plant Ecology, Biogeophysics, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Science, Plant Breeding, Weed Science, Farm Management, Computer Applications in Agriculture, and Rural Development Theory and Policy. Analysis and sustainable improvement of cropping systems in the North China Plain are the main objectives of the research. Job description: At the Department of Political Science and Public Management, University of Southern Denmark in Odense an 18-month position as a postdoc with a possibility of prolongation is available in connection with the research programme “Reforming the Institutions of the Welfare State”. The aim of the research programme is to study changes in the tasks and functions of the welfare state. The postdoc will be responsible for working on a microsimulation model to assess welfare state reforms. This project is located at the Centre for Welfare State Research and has the purpose of establishing better and more flexible measures of welfare states. In turn these measures feed analysis of contemporary welfare state reforms and their consequences for different population groups. The tasks of the appointee will include: • In collaboration with colleagues, implementing and testing the OECD microsimulation model programmed in Stata for a number of countries with relation to personal taxation, certain social security and social assistance schemes, housing allowance and payment for childcare starting with the years 2007 or 2008. • Building and implementing own modules decided upon and designed with colleagues. • Updating and validating the OECD and own modules on a yearly basis. • International coordination of work on the microsimulation model. Not only will the postdoc work closely together with colleagues at the Centre for Welfare State Research (see www.sdu.dk/welfare) at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, SDU, but also with colleagues abroad.
