IFS research grant 16/10/2011
IFS is a research council with international operations and the mission to build the scientific capacity of developing countries in sciences related to the sustainable management of biological and water resources. At IFS, we believe that the interests of both science and development are best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of promising young science graduates, who have the potential to become leading scientists in their countries. Since 1974, IFS has provided more than 7,000 Research Grants to young scientists in some 100 developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. New applicants wishing to apply for a research grant to IFS are invited to submit their research application form before either of the dates highlighted below. There will be two time-bound research grant application sessions before the new three programme strategy is adopted in 2012. The deadline for the first session is 9th October 2011, and the deadline for the second session is 29th January 2012. IFS grantees wishing to submit a renewal application should communicate directly with their contact person(s) at the IFS secretariat. source: www.ifs.se At the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics Project description Our research group studies protein mediated sculpting of the cell surface into carriers for endocytic uptake of various molecules such as receptors, viruses and bacterial toxins. The research is based on molecular biology, cell biological and protein biochemical techniques. This PhD project focuses on elucidating the mechanism behind membrane remodelling mediated by a specific family of proteins, and the role of these proteins in the cell. The work includes expression and purification of recombinant proteins, over and under expression of tagged proteins in cultured cell lines. This study also includes biochemical and biophysical analyses and microscopy and focuses on characterisation of protein interactions. Qualifications Applicants must 1) hold or anticipate receiving within the next months a University degree equivalent to a European University Master degree in the field of biomedicine, molecular biology or biochemistry (240 hp) or 2) have 120 Swedish (old) credits (Swe. poäng; corresponding to 180 ECTS credits) of higher education studies in biomedicine, molecular biology or biochemistry taken before July 1, 2007. It is of great advantage if the applicant has practical experience of cloning, cell culture, and protein purification. Advanced courses in biochemistry or cell biology is of special merit. Special eligibility In order to be accepted to doctoral education, it is required that the applicant has the following: 1. necessary knowledge from university higher education or corresponding education, and 2. necessary English language skills, both in writing and in speaking. Human Rights Towards Gender Equality 20/10/2010
Duration Part 1: March 7 - April 1, 2011 Part 2: October 2011 Location Part 1: Stockholm, Sweden Part 2: To be decided Number of participants :25 Target Region : Global Closing date for applications :November 15, 2010 Invitation Gender Equality is a complex and multifaceted process which includes everything and everybody: equal rights for women and men to pursue career and personal development; right to economic independence and decent living conditions; right to personal safety and free-of-violence environment; right to vote and be elected and among other things, to be respected and to take decisions about one´s own life. Sweden has come a long way in improving the gender equality and the status of women in all areas of public and private sector development and can offer interesting experience for benchmarking. The joint-venture of SIPU International and Uppsala University is very proud to host and implement the ITP on Human Rights towards Gender Equality and offers a wide pool of experts to ensure the quality of the Programme and the anticipated change. We expect each individual participant to receive and utilize the knowledge on the internatikonal regulations regarding Human Rights, to apply and spread the skills of new methods of Gender Equality work, to increase ability to influence gender relations and poverty reduction and become a permanent promoter of Human Rights. Anders Olin Director SIPU International AB Objectives The Programme seeks to strengthen the participant organisations capacity in the field of human rights and gender eqality and get increased knowledge on how to use tools for gender mainstreaming. Strategy for change will strengthen the commitment of organizations and institutions to invest in and institutionalize gender-sensitive change. Target Group/Target countries: Ethiopia, Laos, Kenya, Tanzania and Viet Nam Institutions and organisations which can impact on gender-related improvements either by formal/legal responsibility or general interest in promoting women's human rights are invited to participate. Individual participants are requested to prove interest in initiating change, invest time and efforts in new methods, take challenges and ability to lobby and strong leadership and training potential. Selection will be based on the principle of balanced representation of women and men. Contents The Programme and its training course in Sweden is based on four modules: Module 1: Basics on Gender and sex, which presents the basic concepts of Gender, the stereotypes of masculinity and identity of men, sexual and reproductive rights, impact of HIV/AIDS and disabilities, right to life free from domestic violence, forced sex and risk of trafficking. Module 2: Basics on human Rights for gender equality - presents theory and practice of all key declarations and the main strategies for poverty reduction. Module 3: Methods of Analysis - presents gender budgeting and its contribution to the universal gender equality goals, history and concepts of gender budgeting, methods and forms of application. Module 4: Change process: project work, networking, application - focuses on development of the strategy for change. Development of communication and networking strategy to lobby for human rights and sustain the change within participating organizations is another part of the change process. The participant´s change project is the axel of the Programme and they have to be rooted in and supported by the home organisation/institution and consern a relevant problem in the field of human rights and gender equality. An approved change project is a very important criteria for qualifying. Important documents to download : Contact Sipu International AB Att. Coastal zones all over the world are exposed to serious challenges related to over population and to competitive use of resources and ecosystem services from activities such as agriculture, fishery, tourism, urbanisation and industry. Sensitive ecosystems and negative effects from climate change increase the importance of a sustainable development and the need for an integrated planning and management, where the needs and rights of vulnerable groups are taken into account. Through the International Training Programme on Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development (ISCD) we aim at contributing to poverty alleviation, by supporting capacity building for an Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development. During the programme we strive to achieve an active and strong link to the participant’s professional area but also to strengthen the professional exchange between participants, enriching the programme through their different professional and geographical backgrounds.
