Columbia University’s International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) works in partnership with the Ministries of Health of Tanzania and Zanzibar to establish and strengthen HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services in Kagera, Kigoma, Coast Regions and Zanzibar as well as national support to early infant diagnosis, TB/HIV, palliative care and PLHIV systems. This program is part of a broader US Government HIV/AIDS initiative in Tanzania and receives funding from Centres for Disease Control Tanzania (CDC), PERFAR and the support of the American People. The program seeks an Assistant Study Coordinator to oversee and manage all aspects of a public health evaluation related to testing an intervention aimed at HIV prevention among HIV-infected adults. It is expected that the results of this evaluation will inform the design of programs and ultimately contribute to the capacity of countries to provide high quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services.

Position Title:  Assistant Study Coordinator PWP (Prevention with Positives) – 1 Position
Reports to:   Study Coordinator PWP, ICAP-Tanzania
 Location:    Dar es Salaam, with field travel up to 70% of the time

Overall Job Function:
The person will work together with the in-country M&E team and clinical staff, as well as the New York-based Monitoring, Evaluation and Research [MER] unit, s/he will provide significant scientific input as well as manage all field operations related to data collection and program intervention in HIV clinical care and treatment sites. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Study Coordinator in day to day management of all study activities.
  • Ensure adherence to all principles of research ethics and obligations, outlined in Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
  • Ensure Columbia University, local and other ethical approvals are obtained and regulatory files are maintained in good order.
  • Participate in managing study expenditures and budgets.
  • Ensure implementation of and adherence to study protocol and SOPs and GCP
  • Participate in drafting SOPs as needed
  • Assist in hiring of PHE staff and ensure their integration into existing in-country MER teams
  • Facilitate training of study staff
  • Assist in supervising Site Coordinators and Interviewers
  • Assist in conducting routine monitoring of protocol implementation and data collection activities
  • Participate in translations of materials as needed
  • Attend or participate in meetings with Government of Tanzania, donors or partners as requested by supervisor
  • Write PHE reports as needed including monthly and quarterly reports, funding renewal or continuation reports and PI updates
  • Help to organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings on study progress
  • Facilitate stakeholder partnerships through written and personal communications
  • Perform any other PHE duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator
The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experiences:-
  • A University degree in a social sciences, medical science or public health management
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of HIV/AIDS epidemiology.
  • At least 2 years work experience, preferably in a community health or clinical care setting.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills required.
Experience in facility or community based research or program evaluations an advantage
