KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Grade Control Supervisor is responsible for
  • Ensuring maximum profitability is achieved by minimizing ore body dilution. This will be achieved by ensuring that the best Grade Control sampling, drilling and mining techniques and procedures are practiced.
  • Actively supervising the Succession Planning and mentoring programme amongst the Grade Control Assistants team that ensures that PML commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to allow them to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.
The specific duties of the Grade Control Supervisor include but are not limited to the following:
  • To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilisation of the resources and encourage teamwork across the departments
  • Accurately maintain Grade Control sampling, drilling and mining data records and quality control.
  • Interact and participate with the Mine and Process Departments, to ensure sustained development and reconciliation of ore bodies.
  • Liaising with the Senior Mine Geologist and Production Geologists regarding Grade Control planning and interpretations.
  • Liaising with the Mine Surveyors to facilitate optimal pit pick-ups and mark outs.
  • Assist with preparation of Monthly Geology and Exploration reports as required.
  • Supervise and participate with the Grade Control Drilling and Mining Operators, who are responsible for conduct of site preparation and mining activities, for the Life of Project.
  • Manage Geology Department sampling and drilling inventory requiring knowledge of international and local supply logistics
  • Actively assist with the recruitment and employment of new Grade Control Assistants and Pit samplers.
  • Actively maintain the diamond drill core library and accurate records of the QA/QC of all the sample data for the Life of Project for Sarbanes Oxley legislation compliance
  • Liaise and interact with Tanzanian Government Departments, External Contractors and Consultants as delegated by the Senior Mine Geologist.
  • Actively participate in a working environment which ensures that the Grade ControlAssistants gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and   implementing effective training and mentoring programmes.
  • Assist with the conducting of quarterly performance reviews of the Grade Control Assistants and other Geology staff.
  • Other duties that may be assigned by the Senior Mine Geologist, Principal Geologist, Chief Geologist and Manager – Technical Services to fulfil the overall business objective
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
  • Intermediate mathematic and English skills i.e. able to read, write and speak English fluently.             
  • A minimum 4 -8 years Mining and Exploration experience in a mine or field technician role, preference for Open Cut Mining preferably in multi-element deposits.
  • Very good knowledge of Mine Safety Regulations and Industry Best practices.  Intermediate Computer skills in:  MS Office Software package and Acquire Database Software package.
  • Possess current Light Vehicle Driver’s Licence. Basic skills in geotechnical logging of drill holes. Basic Grade Control design and interpretation skills. Good Communication and Supervisory skills. Advanced knowledge of Laboratory Assaying techniques. Well developed organizational skills. Advanced level of Geological knowledge. Very good knowledge of dewatering techniques.
  • Consistent demonstration of Barrick Core Values. Performance Orientation, strongly motivated, leads by example and maintains a high work standard.
