The Malaria Consortium Kampala, Department of Paediatrics Makerere University Medical school, and Kenya Medical Research Institute – Wellcome Trust Research Programme is offering the following positions

1. One position for a Medical Officer to be based in Mbale Hospital.
2. Two positions for Medical Officers to be based in Soroti Hospital.
3. One position for a Medical Officer to be based in St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Gulu.

Contract duration: One year; with a possibility of renewal for another 6 months.

Purpose of the posts
The Medical officer will act as the main trial doctor responsible for overseeing day to day running of the trial including the supervision and management of a clinical team and ensuring adherence to the trial procedures and that the trial can be integrated with routine clinical care of the children.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
The Medical Officers have the responsibility of:

1. Providing medical care to children taking part in the clinical trial as well as other general patients in the research ward.
2. Screening of subjects according to the protocol.
3. Being part of the on-call clinical rota as needed.
4. Completion of trial related medical assessment and documentation in case report forms.
5. Assisting with documentation and reporting of serious adverse events and clinical endpoints.
6. Any other duties appropriate as assigned by the Principal Investigator(s) or Clinical Project Manager.

REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator(s) at each site

Successful candidates will work closely with the project manager, site coordinator, project nurses and laboratory technicians.

For candidates with the appropriate aptitude there will be an opportunity for higher professional development and/or potential to develop a research project within the framework of FEAST trial.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. M.BCh.B
2. Emergency paediatric experience highly desired.
3. Highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals.
4. Good communication, interpersonal skills and flexibility.
5. Expected to live in a nearby location next to the study sites.
6. Experience in computers, research, and knowledge of local language would be an added advantage.
