We are seeking a professional language teacher with a serious commitment to teaching languages for academic purposes. This is a full time appointment with a multi-year renewal contingent on successful review. Salary and rank commensurate with experience. We are seeking a professional language teacher with a serious commitment to developing pedagogical materials and incorporating technological innovations into the curriculum. A background in linguistics is an asset. Responsibilities will include teaching 2-3 courses per semester and other duties associated with the language program. Candidates for the position should also be willing to participate in a full range of African Languages Program activities, including curriculum development. School/Institute/Unit: Arts and Sciences Minimum Degree Required: MA Minimum Qualifications: All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position. The rank of Senior Lecturer in discipline (language) requires a high level of achievement and superlative record of teaching as a lecturer and documented evidence of excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities such as directing specific courses. The rank of lecturer in discipline (language) requires substantial teaching experience with documented evidence of pedagogical excellence and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Swahili preferred, but applicants with a Master's degree and considerable language teaching experience are also encouraged to apply. Experience developing African language materials, including web-based materials, and using computer-based instructional technologies is a plus.
