Call for nominations: World Food Prize 07/03/2010
The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the accomplishments of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world. Nominations are sought of an individual or individuals having demonstrated exceptional achievement in any field involved in enhancing food production and distribution and increasing food availability and accessibility to those most in need. Any academic or research institution, private or public organization, corporate entity, or governmental unit may submit a nomination for The World Food Prize. How to Nominate Submissions to The World Food Prize Secretariat (address below) should include:
The Selection Committee comprises nine distinguished individuals knowledgeable about various aspects of plant science, agricultural production, nutrition, food processing, water and the environment, food distribution, and international development. After reviewing nominations, the Committee recommends a first-place candidate and an alternate whom it deems most worthy based on the stated criteria. Final approval is conferred by the Foundation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors and its Council of Advisors. Back to Top Nomination Criteria The World Food Prize is awarded for a specific, exceptionally significant, individual achievement at any point along the full range of the food production and distribution chain. Announcement of the Recipient The name of the World Food Prize Laureate is made public in the Spring of the year. The $250,000 award and sculpture by world-renowned artist Saul Bass are then presented in a special Laureate Award Ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines on or near World Food Day in mid-October.
