At the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics

Project description
Our research group studies protein mediated sculpting of the cell surface into carriers for endocytic uptake of various molecules such as receptors, viruses and bacterial toxins. The research is based on molecular biology, cell biological and protein biochemical techniques. This PhD project focuses on elucidating the mechanism behind membrane remodelling mediated by a specific family of proteins, and the role of these proteins in the cell. The work includes expression and purification of recombinant proteins, over and under expression of tagged proteins in cultured cell lines. This study also includes biochemical and biophysical analyses and microscopy and focuses on characterisation of protein interactions.

Qualifications
Applicants must 1) hold or anticipate receiving within the next months a University degree equivalent to a European University Master degree in the field of biomedicine, molecular biology or biochemistry (240 hp) or 2) have 120 Swedish (old) credits (Swe. poäng; corresponding to 180 ECTS credits) of higher education studies in biomedicine, molecular biology or biochemistry taken before July 1, 2007.

It is of great advantage if the applicant has practical experience of cloning, cell culture, and protein purification. Advanced courses in biochemistry or cell biology is of special merit.
