The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is a public institution with the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training.
The Swiss Centre for International Health of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in internationalhealth. Because of an internal restructuring, we are seeking for a position based in Basel, a Head of Unit.
The tasks of the Head of the Systems Performance and Monitoring Unit include:
• Manage a rapidly expanding and successful unit with a team of around 70 collaborators who are based in Basel and in several offices abroad
• Plan and coordinate on-going and new assignments from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis and other clients
• Further develop the profile and mandates of the unit in the area of performance monitoring and controlling
• Conduct activities related to the appraisal and performance monitoring of health sector development projects in low- and middle income countries
• The jobholder reports to the head of the Swiss Centre for International Health. He/she will be a member of the departmental leadership team.
The position is based in Basel, Switzerland. To best fit into our active, multidisciplinary team we expect the following qualifications:
• Minimum of ten years working experience in the management of health or development programs in at least one of the following fields: public health, health system monitoring and evaluation, health planning and management, health information systems, financial controlling
• Track record in business management and as a team leader
• Minimum of three years working experience in low- and middle income countries
• Willingness to travel abroad
• Excellent command of English and of at least one more language (French/Spanish)
• Excellent communication skills, strong spirit of team work and initiative, and ability to work in a multi-cultural context
