The Heineken Prizes are international prizes awarded every other year to five internationally renowned scientists and one highly talented Dutch visual artist for their great merits to science, Dutch art and society.

Heineken PrizesThe scientific Heineken Prizes recognise and reward unique achievement in the fields of biochemistry and biophysics, medicine, environmental sciences, history and cognitive science. The sixth Heineken Prize, the Heineken Prize for Art, is awarded every two years to an artist living and working in the Netherlands.

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences presents the Heineken Young Scientists Awards every other year to five scientists whose outstanding scientific or scholarly work sets an example for other young researchers. Eligible researchers work for a Dutch research organisation and received their doctoral degrees no more than five years previously.

The Dr H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics is awarded by the Dr H.P. Heineken Foundation and supports outstanding research in biochemistry and biophysics.

The Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Cognitive Science is awarded to an individual who has done outstanding work in cognitive science. The prize draws attention to the importance of studying the cognitive functions of human and animals, a relatively new branch of science.

The Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for History recognises outstanding scholarly achievement in the field of history.

The Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Art is intended to support artistic talent in the Netherlands. Alfred Heineken established the prize in order to recognise and encourage outstanding Dutch artists.

The Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences recognises outstanding achievement in the environmental sciences.

Submitting a nomination involves two steps:

  1. completing a nomination form (Word for Windows) in which you provide details (in English) of the nominee and your reasons for nominating him/her. This should be saved to your own computer;
  2. cover page (online form) with which you can then upload the nomination form.

Please first complete the nomination form (in full) so that you can then upload it using the cover page. Incomplete nomination forms cannot be processed.
