Samuel Eto’o to become the highest paid player in the world with a salary of £300,000 a week 11/08/2011
![]() Samuel Eto'o (photo: africasoccernet.com) Cameroonian and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o is set to join Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala - on an incredible salary of £300,000 a week. The monopoly-money wages will make the 30-year-old the highest-paid player in the world. His wages will dwarf the earnings of Lionel Messi at Barcelona and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. Eto’s representative Claudio Vigorelli has confirmed that the striker has agreed personal terms, "We have almost reached an agreement," he said. "Now we hope that the clubs agree.” Eto’o smashed 34 goals last season to fire Inter to a European and domestic Treble in 2010, having done the same the year before with Spanish giants Barcelona. Cash-strapped Inter, who made a £65million loss last year, are now set to agree a £32m fee for the player, who had been linked with a potential swap deal involving Manchester City's wantaway striker Carlos Tevez. "The guy has incredible qualities, but sometimes does not know how to use his brain", nadhani ukifuatilia nyendo za Balotelli utakubaliana na Mourinho kuwa jamaa nati hazijakaza kichwani. (fedha taslimu £25,000 zilikuwa kwenye kiti cha abiria ndani ya gari lale la kifahari - Maserati ambalo lilikuwa limepigwa faini mara 27 anasimulia mfanyakazi mmoja wa klabu ya Manchester City - The other week the Maserati misfired so he just abandoned it. Staff have had to bail it out 27 times.) Alichowajibu, "Because I can" - habari kamili isome kwenye the Daily Mail. UPDATE @ 05:45pm EAT: Eritrean footballers seek Tanzania asylum - read AFP via Google News ----------- Thirteen members of an Eritrean club taking part in a regional championship in Tanzania have disappeared after the side was knocked out of the tournament, a Tanzanian soccer official said on Tuesday. The Red Sea FC players were due to leave the country on Saturday after their elimination from the Cecafa club championship at the semi-final stage but a head count at their departure point revealed that half the squad were missing. "Thirteen out of 26 players of the Eritrean team have disappeared," secretary general of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Angetile Osiah told Reuters. "We have reported the matter to relevant law enforcement authorities for investigation... Some team members colluded in the incident by trying to stamp the passports of the missing players at airport immigration checkpoints but when a physical head count was conducted, it was discovered that 13 players were missing." Illegal immigrants from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia often use the east African country as a transit point to South Africa and elsewhere. It is not the first time members of an Eritrean team have vanished after a tournament outside the country. In 2009, 12 members of the national squad disappeared in Kenya after competing in a regional tournament. - Fumbuka Ng'wanakilala/Reuters SuperSport's Q&A with CECAFA President Tenga 07/07/2011
![]() Leodegar Tenga A former captain of the Tanzanian national football team, Leodegar Tenga is one of the most respected football administrators in the region; his love and passion for the game endearing him to many. He was elected to head the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) in 2005 after serving as secretary general for two years between 1988-1990. He was also appointed as the member of the Sports Council between 1990 and 2002 and was their vice chairman between 1990 -2002. In 2007 Tenga was elected for a four year term as President of Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) and just recently he was elected in the CAF executive committee and is also a member of FIFA’s technical study Group (TSC). Professionally, Tenga is a mechanical engineer and the Managing Director of Land Rover, Tanzania. SuperSport.com’s Collins Okinyo had a lengthy chat with the man charged with running football in the region on issues around the game, his aspirations and goals. SuperSport.com: Do you envisage Tanzania making it to the African Cup of Nations after an absence of over two decades? Tenga: Let me say that like many other countries in the region Tanzania has struggled. We have done poorly and we have got a job to do to qualify. Uganda is currently doing very well in the region compared to all of us. But we have not given up hope because there are a lot of activities going on to help rectify the situation. Investing in the youth and investing in infrastructure is very important and we should do more to ensure our teams have proper youth teams and structures like having the under 14, under 17, and under 20 youth teams. SuperSport.com: What are some of the things that should be done to change the situation you have talked about? Tenga: Elite clubs should have proper development structures meaning we need investors as we need to do more in terms of attracting sponsors. SuperSport.com: As CECAFA do you feel you have done enough to build good relationship with stakeholders that include Sponsors and Government? Tenga: Yes we have tried to build a close relationship with our stakeholders that include the our sponsors and the government by engaging them in all areas. Our policy is to build close relationship with sponsors whom we respect a lot and to have a sponsor consistently you need to be open and transparent with them at all times and make them part of your plans so that they can feel they also own the process. SuperSport.com: Talking of engaging the Government how are you doing this and do you feel you are getting the help you need from them? Tenga: We have to put the government close to us because you cannot talk about youth football without talking about schools and it’s the Government that runs the schools. Rwanda is a great example. It may be a small country but they can now send a team to the youth world cup and they have also hosted top FIFA youth tourneys twice. That means that the Government of President Kagame has invested heavily. Rwanda started investing money in football in the late 90’s and now the results are there for everyone to see and this massive investment has paid off dearly that’s why at CECAFA we are very proud of Rwanda. Yes the venture in terms of money may not be profitable but in terms of football development it is enormous. SuperSport.com: Tanzania has of late really improved in the FIFA rankings under your leadership. What are you doing right? continue with the interview at supersport.com ![]() Alex Kreiger of USA (photo: Getty Image) After the U.S. women's soccer team beat North Korea 2-0 on Tuesday in the first round of the 2011 Women's World Cup, North Korea manager Kwang Min Kim said his team's loss may have been because some of its players were recently struck by lightning. "During training [in North Korea] our players were hit by lightning, and more than five of them were hospitalized," Kim said, according to the BBC. "The goalkeeper and the four defenders were most affected, and some midfielders as well." “The physicians said the players were not capable of participating in the tournament.”Oddly, there was no mention of the lightning strike, which allegedly occurred June 8, until after Tuesday’s 2-0 loss. “The fact that they played could be called abnormal, the result of very strong will,” said Kim. As Brooks Peck of Yahoo Sports' Dirty Tackle sports blog says, "given the secretive nature of the North Koreans, we may never know if this is true or not. ... [And] it is curious that Kim only mentioned this freak occurrence after his team lost." (NPR) Also, as we've said, North Korea is known to say some things that don't quite add up — such as the claim that it's the second happiest nation on Earth. While the North Koreans certainly have a knack for telling tall tales about their losses, their creativity and imagination is even greater when it comes to doling out credit for their successes. Just last year before the World Cup in South Africa, men's coach Kim Jong-Hun told ESPN.com that he gets important advice during matches from North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-il, "using mobile phones that are not visible to the naked eye." According to the soccer skipper, Dear Leader developed the technology himself. Of course, Kim Jong-il is no stranger to athletic achievement -- KCNA reported that he made 11 holes-in-one and shot 38 under par in his first round of golf in 2003. Or to invention -- one year later a state media report cited him as the creator of the hamburger, or as he termed it, "double bread with meat."
