It looks like Tanzania's new slogan 'Kilimo Kwanza' literally meaning 'Agriculture First' has met a partner in recognition.
The UN's News website reports that the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) scheme via a $3 million project set by Germany will help Tanzanian farmers expand their access to markets and ultimately bolster their food security. The project aims at helping the common 'mwananchi' shift from just cultivating food for survival to producing food for cormmercial purposes.

The plan is to provide technical expertise to local traditional farmers in areas of farm management, marketing and business.

The Tanzanian president was quoted by media a few days ago saying that, he was not the first to introduce and stress on the slogan, 'maisha bora kwa kila Mtanzania', he remarked that it started with the father of the nation, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, so he is just a mere advocate of it. That being said, my question remains, how has the 5 years of the current governing office managed to live the slogan? (though borrowed) how will the mwananchi translate to real life and fair the slogan from Nyerere to Mwinyi to Mkapa and now Kikwete?

I think Mr. President and the whole authoritative bodies should know that most of us lack confidence and motivation for work. Our working environment is demoralizing. We lack enough equipment to enable us carry out and fulfill the required job effectively hence, low yield and ultimately a low pay. The common mwananchi has been hearing in radio, seeing on television and reading on newspapers about corruption that has plagued every sector across government and non government organisations, so much so that they have little, if not zero trust. We just struggle to survive and live for the day. We don't know what living is. In these two years, we have witnessed a number of demonstrations from various dissatisfied wananchis demanding fulfillment of either past due salaries (for example the teachers) or a pay of some sort from a long awaited compensation (like the former East African Community employees). It is these kinds of news  that usually force people into believing that their government has either given up on them or abandoned them completely. Hope for the nation wanes and that for the future dies off. If that is the case, what kind of a future generation are we building? How can we tell the young ones to have hope while we have none? It's not noble to lie.

Nevertheless, we can revive our hopes through Kilimo Kwanza believing that the re-introduction of 'kilimo kwanza' will be a 'walk the talk' kind of thing, Mwananchi is already tired of 'talking the talk', after all, an old African Swahili saying insists that, 'ada ya mja hunena, mwungwana ni kitendo' and mwananchi cites this very well.
