Patrick Lusato of Tanzania won the Nagpur International Marathon, which was held on Sunday to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Patrick crossed the finish line with a timing of 2:13:06 to win the title plus a prize money of Rupees 1.25 lakh in the Full Marathon. Oswald Kahanuzi of Tanzania, came in second with a timing of 2:13:07, winning a prize of Rupees 2.25 lakh. Benson Yator of Kenya clocked 2:13:54 to win the third spot and a prize money of Rupees 2 lakh. Helen Musyoka of Kenya won the Half Marathon for women, clocking 1:11:27 and winning Rupees 1.50 lakh in prize money. Restituta Kemi of Tanzania came in second (1:12:39, Rupees 1.25 lakh) and Dehninet Jara of Ethiopia third (1:13:00, Rupees 1 lakh). Nearly one lakh runners took part in the marathon in various events, which included the full marathon, half marathon, 12 kilometres for boys, 10 kilometres for girls, 5 kilometres for boys under 18, 3 kilometres for girls under 18, besides an event for wheelchairs. The 'Ahimsa Daud' (The Run for Non-Violence) attracted thousands of entries and saw enthusiastic participation from the residents of the second capital from all walks of life. The events were flagged off by former India cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, Maharashtra ministers R R Patil, Anil Deshmukh and Suresh Shetty, besides Mayor Archana Dehankar. Bollywood stars Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan were among the guests for the concluding and prize distribution ceremonies.
