The Vatican communiqué has reported that the Holy Father has appointed two auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The appointed are Fr. Eusebius Alfred Nzigilwa, 43, of the clergy of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, former rector of St. Mary's major seminary in Visiaga, and Fr. Salutaris Melchior Libena, 46, of the clergy of Mahenge, Tanzania, professor and spiritual director at St. Paul's major seminary in Kipalapala. Bishop-elect Nzigilwa was born in Mwanza, Tanzania in 1966 and ordained a priest in 1995 while bishop-elect Libena was born in Itete, Tanzania in 1963 and ordained a priest in 1991.

The Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania's largest city) has some 5 million people. Around 1.5 of these are Catholics, with 193 priests and 737 religious. The Archdiocese is currently led by Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, 53.
