On Tuesday, February 4th, 2013 Microsoft confirmed that Satya Nadella, 46, is its new CEO.
- Nadella who joined the 38 year old tech company in 1992, has risen through the tech company's ranks and the most recently position he held was executive vice president of Microsoft's "cloud and enterprise" group. His previous work experience was with Oracle's Sun Microsystems.
- He is an Indian-American engineer, the 3rd CEO in the company’s history after Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates.
- For his deep tech knowledge, he led Microsoft's server and tools division as well as overseeing cloud computing (Bing, Office 365, Xbox Live, Azure) since 2013.
- His education background started in Hyderabad, India's southern city considered to be a tech hub and home to one of the biggest Microsoft research and development centers outside the USA. He attended Hyderabad Public School where he graduated with bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Manipal University. He then earned his master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin in the USA. He obtained his MBA from the University of Chicago in the USA.
- According to Reuters, Nadella father was a member of the elite Indian Administrative Service and a member of the Planning Commission during 2004-2009 under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He still lives in Hyderabad.
- He is a father of two special needs children: "At home, raising kids or maintaining a loving relationship, realising that you have achieved something fantastic is much harder to see. For example; making sure you are at home, reading to your kids every night, just trying hard to be a great parent with just hope that it may make your children great people and parents themselves, but that for most people you won't know the result of your efforts for 20 years and nothing is certain." he said in an interview with New Zealand-based Paymark.
