DAR ES SALAAM (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police in the northern coastal town of Tanga said on Monday that they have arrested two suspects in connection with human trafficking involving 13 children aged between seven and 22 years.
Tanga regional police commander Fraser Kashai said the two suspects were arrested while transporting 13 children to the Kenyan port city of Mombasa.
"We arrested the two suspects last week at Horohoro on the Tanzania and Kenya border where they failed to produce valid documents, including letters from the parents of the children," Kashai told a news conference.
Kashai said preliminary police investigations revealed that the children were being taken to Mombasa for Islamic schooling.
The 2014 Trafficking in Persons Report prepared by the U.S. Department of State shows that Tanzania has not made any progress in the fight against the trade in human beings.
