The President’s Office, Planning Commission is organizing Annual Planners Conference to be held in Dar es Salaam in September this year with the aim of discussing contemporary issues pertaining to economic planning and management.
The Planner’s conference is a professional gathering that brings together practionners in government including economists, planners and statisticians responsible for economic management and planning who meet to discuss and share experience on policy, planning and networking and professional development issues.
The conference presents opportunities for high-level networking and consensus building on government processes. It also provides for collective effort in dealing with potential challenges and achievements through sharing experience and knowledge. Therefore, strengthening the role and performance of the economic cadre to a necessary ingredient to transforming the country’s economic and social development
In view of the recent development this years’ conference will cover discussion on the following issues;
- Carrier Development for Planners (Statisticians, Economists and planners);
The presentation will discuss opportunities, success and challenges in their work.
- Preparation of the Second Five Year Development Plan (2015/16 – 2020/21);
We are now implementing the first Five Year Development Plan (2011/12 -2015/16). The President’s Office, Planning Commission is doing review of the plan with the main objective to inform Tanzanians on the progress made in implementation and challenges encountered
- Draft of Public Investment Management Operational Manual;
The government has developed a Public Investment Management (PIM) operational manual, a document that aims at strengthening overall public sector performance, efficiency and accountability for the use of public resources allocated for development projects and programmes. The ultimate aim is to enable policy-makers to select development projects based on objective appraisals or analyses rather than on “influence”, and to ensure value-for-money and development results. and
- Preparation for Tanzania to Benefit from Gas Economy
The meeting will discuss how Tanzania is preparing to benefit from the gas economy. In brief, issues of investment, management of revenues and local content; (public involvement in the gas economy).
The participants of the conference will include directors of policy planning (DPPs), planning officers from Ministries, department and agencies, local government authorities, and representatives’ from research and academic institutions.
The last Annual Planners Conference was organized by the Ministry of Finance on 12th March 2010 in Morogoro where four themes were presented and discussed namely;
- The Role of Planners in Economic Development: Economic Planning, Implementation and Reporting;
- The East African Common Market;
- Entrepreneurship and Business Management for SMEs; and
- Effectiveness of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in the Tanzanian economy.
