Wizara ya Afya na Ustawi wa Jamii inapenda kutoa taarifa  kwa umma juu ya kuwepo kwa ugonjwa wa homa ya dengue yaani “dengue fever” hapa nchini.  Ugonjwa huu umethibitishwa  baada ya sampuli zilizochukuliwa kutoka kwa watu waliohisiwa kuwa na ugonjwa huu jijini Dar es salaam kupelekwa kwenye maabara yetu ya Taifa Dar es salaam na kuthibitisha kuwa na virusi vya homa ya dengue mnamo mwishoni mwa mwezi wa Januari. Hadi sasa idadi ya wagonjwa ambao wamethibitishwa kuwa na  ugonjwa huu ni 21 na hakuna

IFCEU, Syngenta Found. to expand Weather Insurance to 1 million E.A farmers

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, signed two grant agreements, with a combined value of $3.9 million, with the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture to expand index-based insurance to small-scale farmers in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Index-based weather insurance can protect against the adverse effects of climate change and help to strengthen food security in rural communities.

UAE banks hunting for Tanzanian loan defaulters who borrowed 30 billion/-


Story by IPP's The GUARDIAN — Three United Arab Emirates (UAE) based commercial banks have launched a crackdown to recover about USD20m (30bn/-) in loans from Tanzanians who borrowed the money for their personal use but failed to repay three years ago.

The loan recovery assignment is being conducted by a local debt collection firm, Harvest Tanzania Limited in partnership with Dubai First Security Group LLC. The banks the money was borrowed are RAK, Emirate National Bank of Dubai and the Commercial Bank of Qatar.

Relationship between mining and malaria explained

Geita recorded highest malaria prevalence rate in 2012, authorities in Geita are now pointing fingers on the sector blaming for causing holes that turns into mosquito breeding areas during rainy season. Acting Geita District Executive Director (DED) Duncan Thebas speaking to the Guardian said: “a fact that malaria is higher in the region is because Geita is a mining area.”

He explains that, due to ecological and nature of the area, fighting malaria in the area has been a complex phenomena: “Go around the district, you will find more holes that turns into bleeding areas—thus increase the chances for malaria,” he said. Open University of Tanzania investigating suspected fee payments fraud
