FIFA World Cup History: Facts & Figures - Oldest player, Most goals...

I think this infographic needs an update for a new record in history, after today's Germany 7:1 Brazil with Miroslav Klose scoring his 16th goal of the tournament.

BTW, I've just been reminded that in 1974, there was a score line of Yugoslavia 9:0 Zaire (DR Congo).

In order to preempt terrorist group's attempts to make explosives harder to detect, people flying to the U.S. on international flights are advised to keep their phones, tablets, laptops and other gadgets charged or else the devices might not be allowed on the plane if they can't power up.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says its new policy guideline is aimed at certain airports that have direct flights to the U.S.

Officials at those overseas facilities should require passengers to turn on cellphones and other devices before they're allowed to board. The agency didn't specify which airports it's concerned about, but a "homeland security official said last week that the changes would primarily focus on airports in Europe and the Middle East," reports CNN. "An official told the BBC that London's Heathrow was among the airports," the British news service says. It adds that airports in France and Germany have agreed to the procedures.

Nostalgia! Who else has a chance to win the FIFA World Cup this year?

Pele. Archive Photos, Inc
Pele (photo: Archive Photos, Inc.)
Pele : Edson Arantes Do Nascimento is the only soccer player in the history of the FIFA World Cup competitions to have played in four world cups (1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970) during which time his country, Brazil, won the world cup three times, two in row (1958 and 1962). We know him by the name of Pelé. He was 17 when he played in the 1958 FIFA world cup and Brazil won the FIFA trophy for the first time.

Brazil (Brasil): In recent history, Brazil would be the only country to appear in three consecutive world cup finals (1994, 1998, and 2002) and manage to win the trophy twice during the 8-year period, in 1994 against a gifted Italy and in 2002 against a powerful Germany. By the end of the 2014 contest, FIFA will have had 20 world cup championships. I believe a team from Europe (possibly Germany or Netherlands) will win this time. Regardless, Brazil will still own the record of being the winningest country – five wins or a quarter of the 20 contests!

Italy and Germany: Italy won back to back world cup championships in the early history of FIFA (1934 and 1938) and has won the cup four times overall. Well, Italy is

Costliest mistakes: Extra comma in contract costs a company. $888,000

Punctuation, people, punctuation. An extra comma in a contract between two Canadian companies was used as a way to make it null-and-void.

The agreement between telecom giant Aliant to string cable lines for Rogers Communications at $9.60 a pole stated this: “shall continue in force for a period of five years from the date it is made, and thereafter for successive five year terms, unless and until terminated by one year prior notice in writing by either party.”

Aliant said the second comma in the sentence meant they could cancel with one years' notice, while Rogers insisted the contract was meant to last five. Lawyers for Aliant called it “a basic rule of punctuation” and won in court. Rogers was on the hook for an additional $1 million Canadian ($888,000 US).

  • Ronald Wayne Gives Up Stake in Apple, Losing Out On $22 Billion

Wozniak, Jobs... and Wayne? That's right, there was a THIRD founder of Apple computers that you've never heard of. That's because Ronald Wayne gave back his stake in the multi-billion dollar company back in its earliest days in 1976.

Woz and Jobs each had 45 percent shares and Wayne, who was their elder, had 10 percent. He was supposed to be the “adult-in-chief” and settle any disputes between the other two, but Wayne felt the pair were too young and inexperienced and feared that the company would go under and he'd be liable.

Less than two weeks after signing the agreement, he cashed out for $2,300. Oops!
