Tanzania seen luring IPOs as State lifts foreign-share ownership


Tanzania, which has Africa’s best-performing stock market, lifted controls on foreign-share ownership, making it more enticing for companies to consider initial public offerings.

The removal of restrictions on foreigners owning more than 60 percent of companies that trade on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange was published in a Government Gazette dated Sept. 19, Charles Shirima, spokesman for the Capital Markets and Securities Authority, said by phone today from the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. Investors from the East African Community will also be allowed to buy as much as 40 percent of Tanzanian government securities, he said.

Discovery of 27 vertebrates reveals unmatched biodiversity in Tanzania

A study by an international team of scientists coordinatedby Italy's MUSE - Science Museum updates knowledge on the faunal richness of the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania and Kenya; presents the discovery of 27 new vertebrate species (of which 23 amphibians and reptiles); identifies the drivers of the area's exception biological importance and advocates for its candidature to the UNESCO's List of World Heritage Sites.

A study documenting the latest research findings on the faunal richness of the tropical moist forests of the Eastern Arc Mountains of Kenya and Tanzania was published on-line today (26th of September – 5am BST) in Diversity and Distributions. The study summarises the last decade of biodiversity research in the Eastern Arc Mountains, including the discovery of 27 vertebrate species that are new to science; and 14 other species not previously known to exist in the area.

Tanzania 91-day Treasury bill yield drops to 9.88 percent

The weighted average yield on Tanzania's 91-day Treasury bill fell to 9.88 percent at this week's auction from 11.83 percent at the last sale two weeks ago, the central bank said.

During the sale held on Wednesday, the bank accepted a total of 275.1 billion shillings ($164.8 million) worth of bids for the debt that came in a range of maturities. It had sought to borrow 135 billion shillings.

Katika maadhimisho ya 19 ya Kituo cha Sheria na Haki za Binadamu (LHRC), Mkurugenzi wa LHRC, Dk. Hellen Kijo-Bisimba, amesema wameamua kumuenzi Dk. Mvungi katika siku ya Haki za Binadamu kwa kumwandikia kitabu, kwa kuwa miaka 19 akiwa na rafiki yake Dk. Ringo Tenga walipokea hati ya usajili wa kituo hicho.

Maadhimisho hayo yamempa heshima Jaji Joseph Sinde Warioba ya kuzindua kitabu kinachohusu maisha na kazi za kisheria alizopata kuzifanya na kuziamini Dk. Sengodo Mvungi, kinachoitwa ‘Breathing Constitution’, kwa tafsiri nyepesi, Dk. Mvungi ‘anapumua Katiba’.

Hapo jana tarehe 25 Septemba, 2014, Mahakama Kuu ya Tanzania imetoa amri kuhusu maombi yaliyofunguliwa na Bwana Saed Kubenea, mwandishi habari mwandamizi na mhariri wa gazeti la Mwanahalisi kutaka Mahakama Kuu itoe ufafanuzi wa mamlaka ya Bunge Maalum kwa mujibu wa kifungu cha 25 cha Sheria ya Mabadiliko ya Katiba, Sura ya 83 ya Sheria za nchi yetu. Katika amri yake hiyo, Mahakama Kuu imesema yafuatayo kuhusu mamlaka ya Bunge Maalum:

(a)           “Kwamba kuna mgongano katika maana ya maneno yaliyotumika kwenye kifungu cha 25 cha Sheria hiyo kwenye toleo la Kiingereza la Sheria hiyo. Hata hivyo, licha ya mgongano huo, tafsiri sahihi ya maneno ya kifungu hicho ni kwamba:

(i)                    “Mamlaka ya ‘kujadili na kupitisha masharti ya Katiba inayopendekezwa’ maana yake ni mamlaka ya kutunga na kupitisha Katiba inayopendekezwa kwa ajili ya kupelekwa kwa wananchi wa Tanzania ili kupigiwa kura ya maoni;

(ii)                  “Mamlaka hayo yatatekelezwa kwa kutumia Rasimu ya Katiba iliyowasilishwa kwenye Bunge Maalum na Mwenyekiti wa Tume ya Mabadiliko ya Katiba. Katika kufanya hivyo, Bunge Maalum linaweza kuboresha na/au kurekebisha Rasimu ya Katiba. Mamlaka hayo yanamewekewa mipaka, kama ilivyokuwa kwa Tume ya Mabadiliko ya Katiba, na tunu na maadili ya taifa yaliyopo kwenye kifungu cha 9(2) cha Sheria;

MWAKA 1995, mwanasiasa kijana kutoka Chama cha NCCR-Mageuzi, James Mbatia, alichaguliwa kuwa Mbunge wa Jimbo la Vunjo katika Uchaguzi Mkuu wa Kwanza wa Vyama Vingi hapa nchini.

Ushindi wa Mbatia haukuwa wa kawaida kwa sababu alipata kura zaidi ya 57,000 ambazo ndizo zilikuwa nyingi kuliko mbunge mwingine yeyote kwenye Bunge la Muungano.

Kufahamu ukubwa wa ushindi huo, idadi hiyo ya kura ilikuwa takribani asilimia 80 ya kura zote zilizopigwa. Hadi leo, takribani miaka 20 baada ya kuanza kwa vyama vingi, hakuna mbunge wa upinzani aliyewahi kutwaa jimbo kwa kupata asilimia hiyo ya kura.

Kwa utuki tu (Ahmed Rajab anaita Sadfa) au kwa lugha ya Kiingereza Coincidence, Jimbo la Vunjo ndilo lililokuwa pia ngome kuu ya NCCR Mageuzi kwa vile aliyekuwa mgombea urais kupitia chama hicho na kinara wa siasa za upinzani wakati huo, Augustine Mrema, ni mzaliwa wa eneo hilo.

Tanzania ni moja ya nchi ambazo watu wengi sana wanaamini katika uchawi. Watu wengi wanaamini katika imani za kishirikina ili kuweza kupata mafanikio kwenye kazi, biashara na hata maisha kwa ujumla. Zaidi ya asilimia tisini ya Watanzania wanaamini katika imani za kishirikina. Yaani kuna wale ambao wanazitumia kufanikisha mambo yao na kuna wengi ambao hawazitumii ila wanaamini kuna wanaozitumia kufanikisha mambo yao.

Hakuna haja ya kudhibitisha sana hili kwa sababu tumeshuhudiia mauaji ya vikongwe, na pia tumeshuhudia sana mauaji ya watu wenye ulemavu wa ngozi au albino. Tumekuwa kila siku tukiona watu wanahubiri kuhusu Freemason na habari nyingine za kichawi na pia tumeona watu wakishuhudia kwamba walikuwa wanafanya mambo haya ya kichawi na hivyo kuua watu au kufanya mambo mengine ya hatari ili kufikia mafanikio.

Pamoja na matukio haya kumekuwa na hadithi nyingi sana huku mitaani kwamba baadhi ya watu waliofanikiwa au maarufu ni kwa sababu wametumia uchawi. Tumekuwa tukisikia kwamba wasanii maarufu na hata matajiri wakubwa wanawezeshwa na waganga au wamejiunga na Freemason. Hapa

Three Tanzanian Entrepreneurs win Africa’s Business Leadership Awards
