Ali Kiba irked by Tanzanian media ‘tuning him out’

(image: inyarwanda.com)

Top Bongo singer, Ali Kiba, on Tuesday took a jab at Tanzanian media for giving him a total blackout at an event where he was featured as a Peace Ambassador.

The Peace One Day campaign, which took place at Amahoro in Rwanda, attracted performances from Africa’s renowned artistes such South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Nigeria’s Ice Prince among other top acts.

Despite the fact that one of their own was representing them at the star studded function, it seems no Tanzanian media bothered to cover the fete.

The media blackout made Ali Kiba furious prompting him to take to his official social media pages to vent his anger.

“I direct this message to media stations which did not show support for the Peace One Day campaign. Next time, please provide coverage on behalf of Tanzania, if you wouldn’t want to do so for Ali Kiba or any other personality who will be representing Tanzania,” posted Kiba.

“I am only human and I know in one way or another I could have crossed your lines consciously or subconsciously,” he added.

Citing peace in Tanzania as the main reason for the media houses’ decision not to cover the event, Ali Kiba urged members of the country’s fourth estate to rethink their stand.

“It should not matter whether Tanzania is experiencing peace or political and social turmoil: we should show support at all times. Currently we are at a very critical moment with the forthcoming elections. God should guide us through the exercise,” the Mwana singer further told.

Ali Kiba expressed his worries saying that Tanzanian media painted bad image of the country.

The singer concluded: “It’s not good at all! I have many fans across the world who were not happy with the blackout Tanzanian media gave the event and me at the Peace One Day campaign. It has really hurt me!”

This is the first time the award-winning star has put his country’s media under the spotlight for ‘ignoring’ him at a very critical event.

Tanzanian media however could possibly defend itself from the singer’s jabs by arguing they are covering the ongoing election campaigns.

The country on October 25 will be electing her new president.

Kenyan albinos moved away from Tanzania border

Albinos living in Kenya have been evacuated from areas bordering Tanzania for fear they will be targeted by witch doctors as the country approaches elections next month.

So far, 35 people have been moved from their homes into protected areas away from the border because of the belief that their skin and body parts can bring luck and fortune when ground up and put into charms. A national toll-free hotline has also been set up for those fearful of attack.

It comes after Enock Jamenya, a 56-year-old albino man, succumbed to injuries sustained during an attack on September 10 in Vihiga County near Tanzania’s northern border.

Mr Jamenya told from his hospital bed how three attackers slashed at his neck, arm and head with machetes, cutting off his ear and several fingers before fleeing, leaving him in a pool of blood to be discovered by his young son.

“All I can remember is that three people stormed my house and demanded money,” Mr Jamenya told Kenya's Nation newspaper. “When I told them I had no money, they asked for my ear or hand to sell in Tanzania.”

Mr Jamenya died on September 20 after complaining of a severe headache.

Sasa ghafla inatokea mmoja anakata uhusiano huku penzi bado motomoto. Hapo si ina maana aliyekatiwa uhusiano lazima ataumia sana?

Au, wawili wanapendana, wanapanga mipango mingi ya mbele kuhusu mapenzi yao kiasi kwamba kila mmoja anaamua kuacha vyote ili kuimarisha penzi. Lakini siku inafika ghafla mmoja anaua uhusiano. Anakuwa hapokei simu, hatumi meseji tofauti na zamani mpaka mwenzake anajua hapa nimeshapigwa chini.

Lakini kuna suala la usaliti. Unaweza kukuta wawili wanapendana sana. Kila mmoja anajitoa kwa mwenzake. Inatokea siku moja mmoja anabaini mwenza wake anachepuka.

Worst haj disaster in 25 years: At least 717 pilgrims dead in a crush

Thursday, September 24, 2015: Members of Saudi civil defense try to rescue pilgrims following a crush caused by large numbers of people pushing at Mina, outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca in this handout picture published on Twitter account of the Directorate of the Saudi Civil Defense September 24, 2015. At least 717 pilgrims were killed on Thursday in a crush outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, the Saudi authorities said, the worst disaster to strike the annual haj pilgrimage in 25 years -- reports REUTERS.

At least 863 others were injured at Mina, a few kilometres east of Mecca, when two large groups of pilgrims arrived together at a crossroads on their way to performing the "stoning of the devil" ritual at Jamarat, Saudi civil defence said.

Thursday's disaster was the worst to occur at the pilgrimage since July 1990, when 1,426 pilgrims were crushed to death in a tunnel near Mecca. Both stampedes occurred on Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice), Islam's most important feast and the day of the stoning ritual.

Photographs published on the Twitter feed of the Saudi civil defence on Thursday showed pilgrims lying on stretchers while emergency workers in high-visibility jackets lifted them into an ambulance.

A letter by Ernest Makulilo celebrating his 34th birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERNEST

(A letter to Myself)

Dear Ernest Boniface Makulilo,

Today is the Wednesday of 23rd September 2015. On the exact same day, theWednesday of 23rd September 1981, to be exact 34 years ago you were born. You made your official debut in this world – registered to the most outstanding team on the planet – The Makulilos.

I am very proud of you, Ernest. Not because of change in calendar year, rather challenges you have been facing in the past year. You took all those challenges and turned them into opportunities and ways to overcome future problems. The best part of it is, you have managed to put everything you have encountered into perspective and keep it going.

The most difficult challenge you faced in the past year was the loss you of beloved father – Mr. Boniface Makulilo. He is the legend. Nothing you could do, it’s all God’s plan. So don’t try to punish yourself and feel burden that you were not at home on his last days. It’s the path to Heaven. How can someone go to Heaven before dying first? I am glad you are trying your best to keep your father’s legacy alive. Remember to pray for him everyday – he needs your prayers. He is watching you from there…so don’t let him down. I’m sure he is very proud of you.

You have always wanted to have PhD and teach at the university. You were admitted to pursue PhD studies in Political Science at University of South Dakota to start studies in September 2015. I am very happy for you because it brought your happiness and feeling of accomplishment. Despite the fact that you were admitted, you were in a situation to make the decision whether or not to enroll and start your studies. In every decision someone is making, there are options. You did your cost-benefit analysis and decided not to start studies this year. I am surprised you were happy with that decision. But after looking your reasons behind, I understood. It was the best decision to focus on family and your start-up business than PhD studies. I recall the situation the then, Sen. Joe Biden made when his was elected to be the senator of Delaware and at the same time his family was involved in the car accident and lost some of his loved ones. He said, “The State of Delaware can get the best senator other than me. But my family will never get another Joe Biden”. So he decided to postpone his swearing in the office to take care of his family. Since then, he was the only senator who did not live in Washington DC. He drove back and forth everyday of his life as senator until he became Vice President. In the same line, I totally get it. Your life can never get another Ernest Boniface Makulilo. The PhD is always there. At any time, you can enroll and start your studies. Your family now really wants to be with you.

In the past year of your life, you have made the most toughest and outstanding decision of your life. You decided to start-up your own business company, EBM Wholesale, LLC. I am glad you learnt in the hard way, though it took long time. It’s not late to take that U-Turn. You spent over 18 years of your life in classrooms from primary school to master’s degree. You always believed that after your education you would spend your career life in offices working some companies or government agencies. I am very pleased that, you have realized the real life is not anymore. Now you have come to an understanding that the capitalism, which is the driving force of our lives, is the modern day slavery. It is the most sophisticated way of putting employees on invisible chains and exploits them to their bones. In this mode, you are “given” credit cards, auto loans, mortgage and other ways of financing everything. When you accept any of those (which practically impossible to survive without), you are technically chain yourself and become slave of the capitalism. Without any force, you will set clock alarm to work early and go to work. You will never boycott or quit your job. Unlike old capitalism where proletariats had nothing to lose except their chains, this sophisticated slavery (imperialism), proletariats have so much to lose. If you are terminated from your job, quit or boycott (obvious you will be fired alone), you would end up homeless and bankrupt. You will lose everything you have been working for over a long time. By understanding that, which I am very proud of you, you have made a right move at the right time not become a slave in this mode of life. By owning your business, you are becoming the boss of your own life. You are becoming flexible to spend time with your family. You are increasing your income everyday as profit increases. You own something and building something. When you retire, you can leave the company, transfer to your family (but if you work on a company and retire, you transfer nothing to your children and grand children).

The business you are going into will not be easy at all. You have encountered challenges in securing business loans, as many financial institutions do not prefer to give loans to start-ups until after two years. That did not stop you from continuing with the business. You managed to incorporate and fully funded your business for 100 percent from your own money. That’s should never be underestimated, great success. Now I recall Mark Cuban’s slogan “If you are staring a business and depend on loan, you are a moron”. I can definitely say that you are not the moron. You are the smartest guy I know. You have managed to start and operate with any financial responsibility from banks. I know you well. You are bigger than yourself. You have shown how tough you are. You even proved when you decided to lose weight over 65 pounds in 75 days in order to get the job you wanted. You are the most determined person I know who does not need to read Oprah’s books and some of sorts to get motivated to reach your full potential. I know you, Ernest it is a matter of time before your business takes off and become a millionaire. I truly believe in you. You will be a great CEO and your employees will be pleased to work with you.

The 34th year is the blessing for you. You are starting the year by waiting to welcome baby Clare Francisca Makulilo. You have already shown how great father you are to your son, Benedikt Fulbright. You are a family man, and your family has been a cornerstone to your motivation and successes. Just bear in mind, no matter what happens to you, take your family and make it happy anything else is secondary.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful and joyous year full of accomplishments and happiness. Don’t get too excited and trapped into celebration and forget that each year in your birthday is a countdown towards your retirement. While celebrating, take a moment to thank God for all His blessings to your life. Make a reflection to your life – where did you fall and how to overcome everything you faced. As Carl Brashear pointed out “It is not a sin to get knocked down; it’s a sin to stay down”. You will be knocked down many times in your life. Never stay down, get up and put everything in perspective and keep going. You have shown that many times in your life. You haven’t allowed anyone to steal your dream, protect it and share with other people….in the end you will inspire more people.

Remember to thank everybody who has been helpful in your past year of your life. Without them you could not be in this situation and as positive as you are now. As Bishop Desmont Tutu always says, “a person is a person through other people’s eyes”. Continue to be yourself. Help many people, as you have always been whether or not you know them. Never in your life be arrogant and disrespect people. Your entire reputation will go down, and you will not a person in other people’s eyes.

You are such a good person, Ernest. I am glad to be you in your life. I will always be there for you.

HAPPY 34TH BIRTHDAY

It’s me (you),

Ernest Boniface Makulilo
