Founding Director of Jomo Kenyatta University in Tanzania dies in an airplane

Dar es Salaam — The founding director of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Arusha campus Prof Ward Mavura, has died. The don passed away on Sunday night on a flight to Dar es Salaam from Arusha.

Sources close to his family told The Citizen on Monday that Prof Mavura was due to fly to India for treatment before his untimely death. The chemistry don and university administrator had been battling duodenal ulcers for some time, The Citizen was informed.

Before his appointment as the JKUAT director in 2010, he was teaching chemistry at the Egerton University in Kenya.
