Alisema wanatarajia kupata Sh1.7 milioni kutoka mikoa yote.

Members of the Tanzania Cluster of the Central Corridor on 15t June, 2016 had a successful meeting to evaluate the implementation of previous recommendations in order to facilitate transport and trade along the central corridor.

The meeting which was chaired by Mr Christopher Mramba, Chairperson of Tanzania Cluster, was held at the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (TTFA) conference room at 4thfloor of Posta House.

The meeting was also attended by the new TTFA Executive Secretary Capt. Dieudonné Dukundane for the first time since he joined the Agency in May 2016.

Capt. Dukundane, who is an experienced transport and logistics economist in the East African Region, shared his vision on the future of the corridor of which he said actions should be oriented to tangible results and mostly take care of business issues.

The issues discussed included performance of Dar es Salaam Port on transit cargo clearance procedures whereby they acknowledged the fact that there has been a huge improvement. The meeting called on joint efforts towards making the Port even more attractive to central corridor member states.

The meeting further hailed the decision taken by His Excellence President of United Republic of Tanzania Dr John Pombe Magufuli reducing weighbridge stops from 8 to 3 along the corridor. They noted that the move was a big step towards reducing time and cost along the Central corridor route.

On challenges facing the implementation of the single customs territory between Tanzania and DRC, the meeting agreed that a research to be done to evaluate the situation and submit recommendations in the near future to the relevant authorities.

Among others, participants from Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, Tanzania Port Authority, Tanzania Revenue Authority, Tanzania Railway Limited, Tanzania International Container Terminal Services, Tanzania Truck Owners Association, Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association also attended.

The cluster members agreed to convene next meeting in July this year.

Nigeria, Tanzania to unveil Africa amalgamation through tourism, art

Nigeria, with a rich heritage resources and culture, have been partnering with other countries in its determined aspiration to diversify the economy through creativity in the areas of culture, tourism and entertainment.

The latest collaboration set to take place between Nigeria and Tanzania, would require the transfer of creativity between Nigeria and Tanzania artistes involved in movie production and musical concert.

Tagged ‘East and West Africa Amalgamation Through Arts and Tourism,’ the crux of the project is to bring together key players in Nigeria’s Nollywood industry as well as their counterpart in Tanzania to share their creative ingenuity with the aim of encouraging youths to explore the potential in Africa.

The project which is the first of its kind in the world and Africa would be premiered in Tanzania with Nigerian musical artists performing alongside their Tanzanian colleagues at the 65,000 capacity stadium in the country. The second leg of the production is expected to take place in Tanzania after which the team would return to Nigeria for premiering alongside the Nigerian and Tanzanian artistes. It would be produced in Nigeria by Atunda Entertainment in collaboration with the Tanzanian government while script writers would be expected to emerge with a movie that captures Nigeria’s beautiful culture and heritage.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding has been signed by both parties as the artistes would utilise the famous La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Lagos for its premier location.

Unveiling the project in Abuja, the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Daniel O. Njoolay, pointed out that the project was important given that Tanzanians in motion picture industry lacked the requisite skills and expertise to boost the sector. He noted that the project would introduce surprising cooperation between the two countries in the areas of culture and tourism even as he appealed to the Nigerian media to provide adequate publicity for the project.

Acknowledging that Nigeria ranked among major movie makers in the world, the High Commissioner said that the partnership would benefit his country in the area of technological transfer in arts and creativity. According to him, the Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Culture, is deeply involved in the project and would be committing funds to it the moment the year’s budgetary appropriation is ready.

While commending the chief executive officer of La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Lagos, Dr Wanle Akinboboye, for his tireless efforts towards the success of the project, he revealed that the director of Tanzania Film Board, Ms Joyce Fisoo, has arrived in Nigeria to hold talks with her counterparts in the country. Njoolay maintained that since Tanzania ranked second in terms of tourist attractions in the world after Brazil the project would serve as an opportunity for both countries to further harness their tourism potential. He added that the maiden film titled ‘Pride’ to be shot in Tanzania would be a one and half hour production and would be brought to Nigeria for premiering.

Also speaking, Akinboboye emphasised that the call for the diversification of Nigeria’s economy is over-flogged, adding that it would have taken place 25 years ago.

“In diversification, you have to do a cross analysis of strength and weaknesses. Our greatest strength is in creativity but as number one in Africa, in terms of movie and music, how much value have we added to the continent?” he asked.

He wondered why many Nigerians are ignorant of the tourism potential of Tanzania, stressing that it’s imperative to share our knowledge with our brothers in African countries so that the continent would move forward.

“I believe strongly that if Tanzania can be number two in the world, the project can only explore and enhance both nations’ tourism industries. Let us go to East Africa and develop their movie industry,” he urged.

He explained that East and West are the most authentic sections of Africa, noting that they intend to market the project in places like Asia since Asians have been thirsty for authentic African culture and cultural presentations through music or movies.

On the projected revenue, he said, “It’s difficult to come up with a projected revenue because we will get the private sectors in Nigeria and Tanzania to be part of the project, but we will leave the revenue aspect until the project happens.

In Tanzania, it is as if we don’t exist - Kidomwita, a Barabaig cattle herder

Barabaig herders move cattle from Nambogo market.
At the age of 60, Kidomwita is facing his second eviction in the last decade. After being pushed out of his home by a rice plantation in 2008, his new village of Kwa Wagonzi is being uprooted to make way for a dam that will provide irrigation for commercial rice and sugar farms. Like warthogs, who can live for several months of the year without water, the Barabaig had to adapt their herder lifestyle with similar austerity – they’re victims of competing interests for dwindling land and resources.

The World Bank initially required Tanzania to follow the bank’s policy for protecting indigenous groups such as the Barabaig and Hadzabe tribes. But they also gave a waiver to SAGCOT, an East African agribusiness project, which allows them to develop without following the bank’s Indigenous Peoples Policy. The decision is sparking fears among human rights advocates that the development lender is setting a precedent that weakens protections for indigenous peoples, but the bank maintains that indigenous communities will still be protected under procedures established for the SAGCOT project.

The Kilombero Valley, where the Barabaig people live, is one of the areas where SAGCOT is investing in commercial agriculture. The Tanzanian government launched SAGCOT in 2010 to promote economic growth in Tanzania’s southern corridor, which covers a third of mainland Tanzania and extends from the capital, Dar es Salaam, to Tanzania’s border with Zambia.

Over a 20-year period, SAGCOT aims to convert 350,000 hectares of land into commercial production, boost annual farming revenues by $1.2 billion and lift roughly 450,000 farming households out of poverty, the Tanzanian government said.

Salumu Kundaya Kidomwita, 60, saunters down a trail to his wife Malinja’s hut. He’s on his way back from market day in nearby Nambogo, where multiple tribes meet to sell everything from livestock to maize and cloth. Kiodomwita says he has a lot on his mind, but these thoughts are somewhat quieted by the rainy season – when “the grass is green, it is peace,” he says.

The Barabaig people’s lack of visibility, however, has led to many land disputes in recent decades.

“The Barabaig like to blend in and not disturb nature,” Kiodomwita says.

Kidomwita spends time with five members of his large family at their boma. He’s an elder of the tribe and has four wives and 22 children. Bomas are temporary abodes for the Barabaig made of found materials like dung, mud and sticks – these help the structures meld in with the surrounding environment, which is important for the Barabaig. They’re meant to be temporary abodes, since the Barabaig traditionally move with their herds throughout the year.

Kidomwita, 60, sits with 2-year-old Mama – the youngest of Kidomwita’s 22, going on 23, children.

“It’s hard to keep track,” admits Kidomwita, laughing.

Udenda Gidaghorjod, 20, and her mother, Udangashega Wembida, 40, stand in traditional Barabaig dress at home.

“It is the farmers who are invited to meetings about our land, not us,” said Wembida, a mother of two from Kwa Wagonzi. “[Now] we are threatened with the bulldozers and roads being made for business. We are told by village leaders to go where we came — but that is here!”

Gidanmwahu Gopa, an elder Barabaig herder from Hanang, is resigned about the situation.

“I know we must leave but I don’t know where,” he says. “I have heard of the dam project in Kidunda and sugarcane plantations and I do not see how these land issues can be addressed when we have nowhere to go. We are not involved or compensated adequately.”

Udamugh, whose name means “waiting to heal,” plays with the yellow beads around her neck. She says she was forced to settle in Mkombani four years ago when park rangers from Mikumi National Park shot six of her cows, one by one, as she watched from inside her boma.

“No words were exchanged,” she says. “I was so upset. My family went to the district council to file a complaint but no one investigated. To this day we have not been compensated. To the government I say, tell us where to go to have peace.”

“We are not settling well here,” says one Barabaig woman – the mother of a young child. “For decades, we move, come back, move, come back, chased by our government, the park rangers and farmers. We are tired. We are old. But the threats continue.”

UK charity sends 500 prosthetic legs to Tanzania

Legs4Africa have collected 500 discarded prosthetic legs from across the UK and, with the help from a team of volunteers, are shipping them out to Tanzanian amputees.

The charity collects and reconditions discarded prosthetic legs from the UK and ships them out to African countries such as Tanzania to meet the needs of the many people who have lost their legs due to diabetes and trauma.
“The shipping of goods to Africa is expensive so smaller charities come together to fill containers. We’ve teamed up with the Surry based, Limbcare and, with the sponsorship of Punjani charitable trust, are shipping out mobility equipment to Africa.” explains Tom Williams, chairman of Legs4Africa.

Economic justice, Rights at risk - Asylum access Tanzania

FROM UUSC

CAMPAIGN: ECONOMIC JUSTICE

FOCUS AREAS: ECONOMIC JUSTICE, RIGHTS AT RISK

LOCATION: TANZANIA

The right to work and earn a living is a human right, whether people are citizens of the country where they live, or if they are refugees seeking to make a host country their new home. Without this right, refugees can be trapped in a cycle of relying on human service institutions – or private charities – to obtain the basics they need to survive.

Recognizing the need to defend and promote the refugee right to work, in 2016, UUSC developed a partnership with Asylum Access – Refugee Solutions Tanzania (or Asylum Access Tanzania – AATZ – for short). AATZ was founded in 2009 with the mission of making “human rights a reality for nearly 296,000 refugees living in prolonged displacement in Tanzania" and is the only organization in Tanzania that is dedicated exclusively to ensuring the rights of refugees. Tanzania has become a safe haven for people escaping conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and other countries in the Horn of Africa, and today it hosts one of the largest populations of refugees in all of Africa.

Despite having signed the 1951 Refugee Convention and passage of the Tanzania Refugee Act of 1998, refugees are required to live in camps, where they are denied the right to free movement and cannot seek safe and legal employment. As a result, many refugees flee these camps for Dar es Salaam and other Tanzanian cities, where they face the constant risk of arrest and detention. Without the right to work, they live in poverty on the margins of Tanzanian society. AATZ carries out its work to protect their human rights through three main activities:
  1. Legal Services: AATZ provides refugees with legal assistance to help them win release from unjust detention, access employment and education, reunite with family, and obtain legal permission to remain outside the camps. Their “Know Your Rights” trainings provide information to empower refugees with the information they need to understand their rights and advocate for themselves.
  2. Entrepreneurship and Skills Training: These programs help refugees build employment, income-earning, and leadership skills so they can gain employment and become self-sufficient. Recent programs have been aimed at empowering refugee women through trainings in micro-finance and other work-related skills.
  3. Policy Advocacy: AATZ advocates for changes in law and policy that improve refugees’ access to rights, while working with government officials and global decision-makers to develop and promote solutions to systemic rights violations.
AATZ is a pioneer in the movement to advance the refugee right to work. During Tanzania’s most recent United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of its human rights performance, AATZ and its partners released a report that was the first of its kind to address the human rights of refugees in the UPR process for Tanzania.

With support from UUSC, AATZ is carrying out its “Refugee Right to Work Initiative," benefiting an estimated 1,500 refugees in Tanzania, and thousands more if the anticipated policy changes are implemented.

Philip Hamilton, UUSC Associate for Economic Justice, explains the importance of the new AATZ – UUSC partnership.

"The right to work is enshrined in numerous international and regional human rights documents and guaranteed for all individuals, including refugees. Any effort to limit or prohibit refugees from finding work is a clear violation of the right to work and leaves refugees vulnerable to a number of other rights violations.”

Report: Trump's kids convinced their dad Lewandowski had to go

[June 20th, 2016] - [...] Reports emerged soon after the campaign's official announcement that it was actually Ivanka Trump — and her publisher husband Jared Kushner — who wanted Lewandowski out.

I'm told the person who convinced Trump to fire Corey is Ivanka - who met with her dad and said get rid of him or she can no longer help— Dana Bash (@DanaBashCNN) June 20, 2016

According to CNN's Dana Bash, the move came after Ivanka Trump gave her father an ultimatum.

Also behind the move was Ms. Trump's husband, Bash said.

I'm told that also intimately involved in getting Corey out was Trumps son in law Jared, who has a large and growing behind the scenes role— Dana Bash (@DanaBashCNN) June 20, 2016

Lewandowski is a former New Hampshire field director for a conservative advocacy group. In a statement, Corey said Monday: "I stand by the fact that Mr. Trump is a great candidate and is better than Hillary Clinton ever will be." [INSIDE EDITION]

[June 21st, 2016] - Donald Trump Jr. is shedding some light on the sudden firing of his father’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.

Trump's kids, led by daughter Ivanka and sons Donald Jr. and Eric, reportedly convinced their dad that Lewandowski had to go.

Trump’s eldest son appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday to say “things had to change” within the campaign.

He also admitted that he was in the room when Lewandowski was sacked by the Trump campaign and “there was nothing malicious or vicious about it.”

“It is not an easy thing to do,” Donald Jr. said. “He got my father to where we are today, which is historic… There is time to move on.”

The GOP frontrunner's son added: “I think things had to change. I think it worked out well and it made a lot of sense. Those are the tough decisions you make when you are running for president.”

According to Donald Jr., the former campaign manager “didn’t see this coming. There has to be a transition towards the general [election]. What he has done so far has been incredible and historic.”

On Monday night, Donald Trump told Bill O’Reilly that he parted with his former campaign manager on good terms.

“With Corey, I'm really proud of him,” Trump said. “He did a great job but we're going in a different direction.” [INSIDE EDITION]

Integrity! Man sends $300 and apology note for skipping transit fares

A Massachusetts man who said he skipped transit fares for years as a young man recently gave authorities a typed apology and an envelope full of cash.

Matthew Andrewes gave his note and $300 to a Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority employee on June 9 in Boston.

"Several years ago, particularly when I was in my teens and early twenties, I used to try and avoid paying the train fare whenever I could,” Andrewes wrote. “I am so sorry. Please accept this money as compensation."

Andrewes told the Boston Globe he was motivated, at least in part, by his Christian faith after returning home after years of teaching English in Japan.

"I felt it was the right thing to do for them, and also for the Lord," said Andrewes. "I had kind of been praying about it for a bit."

MBTA officials were both surprised and thankful.

"The MBTA very much appreciates his honesty and willingness to take responsibility for his previous actions," MBTA Chief Administrator Brian Shortsleeve said in a statement.

Shortsleeve continued: "When some people dodge the fare, it’s not fair to all of the others who pay it, and we hope his expression of regret will reinforce this message."

Shortsleeve said the $300 will be added to the fiscal year's Commuter Rail fare revenue.

Kwa nini Hospitali imechukua hatua hii;

Hitimisho;

  • wana nakala ya charge sheet, hati ya makosa;
  • wameiona cause list, orodha au ratiba ya kesi za jinai kujua lini, maana wanasema wakati wowote Waziri wa Katiba na Sheria anapandishwa kizimbani;
  • wanazo taarifa za upelelezi zikithibitisha madai yao, hivyo jalada la kesi hii iliyobebewa bango na DIRA, lipo polisi na wameliona!;
  • kwa kuwa hakuna kesi ya jinai isiyo na mlalamikaji (complainant), hivyo nina matumaini DIRA wanamjua mlalamikaji katika kesi hii na wanakijua kituo cha polisi kilichochukua maelezo ya mlalamikiwa na kuanza kuyafanyiakazi;

“Mheshimiwa waziri mkuu mstaafu tukuhakikishie tu haya tuliyojifunza kwako hatutayaacha yapotee, bali tutayafanyia kazi ili kuhakikisha tunajiinua kiuchumi na kuendeleza taifa letu.”
