Job: Child Protection Technical Specialist

Save the Children has been working in the Child Protection (CP) sector on Mainland and Zanzibar, and will be expanding these activities in the coming years. The position of CP Specialist will advance this work on a technical level and ensure excellence in programming, including demonstration of tangible results for children in Tanzania. The CP Specialist will provide strategic and operational leadership in this process, drawing on current global evidence, practices and approaches.

She/he will assume the overall responsibility for the growth, development and implementation of the CP portfolio in line with SC Tanzania's strategy plan and SC's Global Theme on Child Protection. She/he must bring an innovative leadership profile with a proven track record of working with child protection issues and a sound technical background in programme design and delivery. The post holder should also have a solid understanding of the child protection sector and government structures (national and local level) in Tanzania and some of the current challenges to enforce, protect and fulfil child rights in the country, linked to national action plans, strategies, tools and stakeholders.

Role: EU Project Administrator

Location: Tanzania, Njombe region, Ludewa District

Starting in: September 2017

Duration of the contract: 12 months

Required competencies and skills:
  • experience in administrating development projects funded by the EU and other donors (preferably, at least 3 years);
  • excellent interpersonal abilities and mediation between the specific challenges of field work and the accuracy required for administrative work;
  • motivation and ability to handle complex bureaucracy;
  • excellent logistical abilities;
  • excellent ability to select, train and manage the local administrative-accounting staff;
  • ability to manage relations with banks, suppliers and local institutions;
  • university degree (preferred), especially in economic subjects;
  • mastery of both spoken and written English;
  • inclination to cooperate with superiors for planning and coordination;
  • willingness to live in rural areas and to travel within the country;
  • IT proficiency (word processors, excel, internet, Skype, project management applications).
