Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Optical Spectroscopy

This scholarship is available for the project on Optical Spectroscopy in the research group of Dr Girish Lakhwani in the School of Chemistry. The aim of the project is to identify materials that can efficiently transfer energy across long distances. The project will involve spectroscopic characterisation of advanced semiconductor materials and their performance in devices such as optical switches and sensors.

The PhD student awarded with this scholarship will join a multidisciplinary research team, with strong interactions with other research groups and institutions working under the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science (ACEx). The overall mission of ACEx is to examine and manipulate the way light energy is absorbed, transported and transformed in advanced molecular materials.
Open to: Applicants must have applied for admissions or currently enrolled in for full-time studies in a PhD within the School of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of optical spectroscopy.

Applicants must also hold an Honours degree (First Class) or a Master's degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent.

Applicants must have a strong background in physical chemistry or chemical physics. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and material science.

Applicants must be supervised by Dr Girish Lakhwani.

Value and Duration: The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on January One each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 6 months.

Academic course fees and the Student Services Amenities fee are also provided for a successful international applicant, for 12 research periods. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to 2 research periods.

Closes: 30 September 2019 at 11:59PM (AEST)
