Background: Established through a bequest from Mary Esme Thurburn in 1975 in memory of her husband, the Alexander Hugh Thurburn Stipend Scholarship offers a full stipend and aims to support research studies in agriculture at the University of Sydney.

Open to: Candidates must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a Masters by Research or PhD within the Sydney Institute of Agriculture at the University of Sydney.
Stipend Candidates Stipend candidates must apply for a RTP Scholarship.
Supplementary candidates must also be a recipient of a primary Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship from the University of Sydney that provides a stipend allowance.
Value and Duration: The Stipend Scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed to the RTP rate on January One each year) for up to three years for a PhD recipient, subject to satisfactory academic performance. PhD recipients may apply for an extension of up to 6 months. Masters by Research students will receive the stipend for a maximum duration of two years.
The Supplementary Scholarship will provide an annual stipend supplementary allowance of $10,000 per annum for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to six months. No further extension will be approved.
